Tyler and Jenna's reception

It's an hour into the wedding reception. 1/4 of the people who attended have left, and Tyler and Jenna are still dancing to horrible 90's music on the dance floor.

Meanwhile, I just want to go home. I don't know half of the people here. The reception hall is split, with Jenna's family on one side and Tyler's on the other. I was invited on Jenna's side, and I know her mom and that's it. I did get a couple hugs from Tyler's mom and danced with his sister, Maddy, for a couple songs.

I feel my breath hitch as I feel the empty seat next to me become filled.

I look up and see a messy head of red hair. Josh.

"You look pretty lonely, wanna dance?" He asks me, but I look over my shoulder, making sure he wasn't talking to someone else.
"Right now?"
"Yeah, why not?"

I nod and just as I stand up, Blink-182's I Miss You starts playing from the DJ's speakers. Half the dance floor went to take their seats, including Tyler and Jenna. I suddenly feel like I shouldn't do this.

"Josh, I can't now." I look at the empty floor. I say as Tyler and Jenna start heading our way, back to the wedding party table.

"Can't what?" Jenna asks.
"We were going to dance, but the floor cleared out."
"Well what the heck are we waiting for?" Jenna exclaims, linking arms with Josh and I. "Tyler, come on! This is a classic!"

The four of us look like idiots dancing by ourselves, but it ends up being a lot of fun. Until my phone starts repeatedly vibrating in my bra. I pull it out and see Mia's face on the Caller ID screen, along with two texts from her.

From Mia: Delilah, you need to come to our house. Now.
From Mia: Ben needs to talk.

I start to panic a little bit and rush through the tables to the main hallway, pressing the accept button as soon as I get out.

"Hello? Mia? What is it?"
"You really need to come over. How far away are you?"
"I'm still at Tyler and Jenna's reception. It's probably a 10 minute drive."
"Please hurry." She says, before hanging up. She sounds like she's about to cry.

I run back into the hall and grab my purse from the table, before Jenna catches me on my way out.

"Delilah! Where are you going so fast?" She looks worried. Then Tyler and Josh come over.
"I'm sorry, I really need to go. Mia just called and I think Ben is in trouble." I manage to get out of my mouth.
"Oh, no! Hold on, let me get my purse...I'll go with you."
"Jenna, this is your wedding. Stay. I'll be okay."

"I'll go with you." Josh says.
"You really don't need t-"
"Let's go." He says, throwing his jacket on.

"I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you." I say, kissing both Jenna and Tyler on their cheeks. I feel horrible that I'm missing out on my two best friends' wedding reception, but I have a terrible feeling.

Josh and I head outside, walking towards my Jeep. Which happens to be on it's last wheel, almost literally. It's got so many issues that aren't worth putting money into right now. I really need a new car.

I pull out of the parking lot before Josh says anything.

"What's going on?" He asks.
"I don't know. Mia just said that I need to come over."
"So no details? At least she didn't direct you to a hospital."
"I just hope the kids are okay." I swerve a little and pull over, taking a couple deep breaths.

"Do you want me to drive? You seem too worried, and I don't know about you, but I didn't drink much..." Josh says, and I agree. We switch spots.
"Still remember the way to Ben's?" I ask. He nods.
"How could I forget?"

Ben and Mia are still at the house I grew up in. I moved to the city, but I still visited them to babysit. It's more convenient for them that way.

After a few more minutes of driving, we pull up to their house, noticing a black Escalade parked in front.

"Did they get a new car?" Josh asks. I shake my head.

That's not theirs.
