Delilah's P.O.V

"Daddy, I don't want you to go." A little girl clutches onto her father's hand, as he's walking out the door to go to yet another doctor's appointment.

The man kneels down in front of his daughter, giving her a sympathetic look. He doesn't want to keep taking off of work, leaving his two children alone with their mother. The family is struggling. The mother doesn't work, and there hasn't been enough time for him to work, either.

"Honey, I have to go. The doctor is going to make me all better." He looks up at his wife, who is watching from the bottom of the staircase. "Why don't you go draw a pretty picture of mommy? I want to see it when I come home, okay?"

The little girl looks up at him, excitedly. But her face drops when the front door closes and her father pulls out of the driveway.

The little girl is now joined by her brother. They're eavesdropping from the doorway of their kitchen, on their mother who is talking to someone on the phone.

"I know, but I can't keep living like this! His heart is going to give out any day now and I'm already behind on our mortgage. I can't do this by myself."

The two children look at each other, not entirely knowing what their mother is talking about. They know their father has problems with his heart, but he always seems okay when he's with them.

"You two were always so naughty, listening in on your mother." That sounded like it came from inside my head, but I feel like it's actually coming from behind me.

I turn around and see my father, looking directly at me. Not me from the flashback, but me.

"Pappa..."

He walks past me, and into the kitchen where my mother is. He whispers something to her, and she looks directly at me. The kids disappear. My mother's face distorts into something terrifying. Her eyes are black and it looks like she's melting. She charges toward me.

Ben's P.O.V

My phone is dead when I wake up, which is weird because I had a full charge last night. I plug it in and head to the kitchen for coffee. There's a pot already made, with a note attached:

Took the kids to the park, be back w/ lunch in an hour

I hear a series of noises coming from the bedroom, indicating that my phone has powered up.

4 missed calls, one voicemail

My phone opens to Facebook when I unlock it, and the first post is about a hit and run crash last night.

"Heartless people." I say in disappointment, outloud.

One call is from Josh, the other three from a number I don't recognize. They also were the ones to leave a message. I press the speaker button to listen to the voicemail.

"Hello, this message is for Ben. This is Rachael at OhioHealth Riverside and I'm calling in regards to your sister, Delilah Olsson. If you could give me a call back, the number is (unrecognizable number). It is urgent. Thank you!"

Something clicks in my brain. Hit and run. Hospital is calling me on behalf of Delilah.

I drop the fresh mug of coffee, nearly scolding my feet as it runs along the wooden floor beneath me. I grab my keys and pray that I have enough gas in my truck to get there.

Josh's P.O.V

We're in town. It took us until the next morning, but we're only a few minutes away from the hospital at this point. There's definitely a heavy tension in the car, between the three of us right now. Tyler still hasn't said anything, and Jenna has been super quiet. I'm just trying to focus on the road and get there as fast as possible.

"Ty, you hanging on back there?" Jenna speaks up, looking from the passenger to the backseat. His eyes are glued to his phone.

"Roads are closed after a hit in run in Cincinnati last night," he starts to read. He must have found an article. "While there was limited debris from the suspect vehicle, the victim's has been wrecked beyond repair. The driver of said vehicle was transported to Columbus via ambulance after an anonymous caller informed emergency services of the crash. Local authorities are currently investigating traffic footage to identify the suspect. No names have been given out at this time."

He looks back up at Jenna, clearly distraught. I feel my body temperature raise at least 5 degrees. If this was Shawn's doing, I will not let him get away with this.

"Who would just crash into someone and speed off like that?" Jenna asks. I have a pretty good idea who would do something like that.

I pull in front of the hospital doors, not even bothering to find a parking spot. The three of us run into the waiting area, but I stop in my tracks. There's a familiar head of black hair, sitting in one of the chairs with his face buried in his hands. I see a tattoo on the side of his neck, which confirms my suspicions.

One of us is not leaving here alive, I can guarantee that.
