Chapter Eight
--------------------
Pulling on a black jacket that covered my light blue blouse, I grabbed my bag from the floor and dashed down the stairs while putting my hair into a small bob. Rushing around and mentally slapping myself because I hadn't known that I was going to be so late for school.
"You woke up pretty late today," my mother said as i emerged into the kitchen. I quickly grabbed a french toast from the plate on the counter and mashed it into my mouth. I wasn't leaving before having breakfast, no way. "That's why we have a curfew for you, so you can get some sleep." But that wasn't why I hadn't gotten some sleep. Aphrodite's voice had kept on replaying over and over in my head and it had taken me a while to go to sleep, even though on the car ride home, Kevin had assured me that Aphrodite wouldn't get me at home.
"Of course mom, that's why," I replied.
"Well you better hurry to school. Is Ashley going to be picking you up today?" I shook my head hurriedly.
"No, no today. Today's when I walk to school." My mother shook her head.
"But your going to be late!" my mother explained.
"Not if I run," I said bolting for the door. As I made my exit, I stopped short when I can to the driveway. An unfamiliar sports car was parked in my driveway and the engine was still on. The windows were dark tinted so I couldn't see inside. I tapped on the drivers window and it slowly rolled down.
"Kevin?" I asked surprised. He cocked his head to the side and nodded.
"Like the car?" he asked. I nodded.
"Yeah, it's nice. But why are you here?" I quickly realized I was wasting time talking and needed to get to school really fast.
"I'm here to give you a ride to school," Kevin answered. My face lit up.
"Really?" I asked excitingly for two reasons. One, I would make it in time to school and two... well you do the math. Me, him, alone in the car. Unless Aphrodite is in there...
"No Aphrodite isn't in here," he said. I raised my eyebrows questioningly. "It was the look on your face that gave it away." I blushed and quickly marched around the car and slid into the passenger seat.
"Hurry up," I said to him. "I don't want to be late." He laughed as we backed out of the driveway.
"Is that the only reason you wanted to get a ride?" he asked with a crooked smile. I blushed harder.
"Yes," I replied turning my head so he couldn't see my face. "That's the only reason of course."
