Derek sighs in frustration as he exits the OR room. He peels off his surgical gloves and slams them into the waste bin. He scrubs his hands then storms out, drying them on his pants. He lost his first patient since he's been at Seattle Grace. A young girl in her early twenties. She came into the ER with persistent migraines, nausea, dizziness. Her family doctor shrugged it off, gave her medication to help the migraines, but they were no help. She had a seizure while she was driving home from her little sisters soccer game. Her brain was swelling, they brought her here in a helicopter but unfortunately it was too late. He did everything he could, but the damage was to extensive. The trauma was too much for her body to handle, she died on the table. He was thankful Richard was taking Josie for the night because all he wanted was a drink. He gathered his things and left, walking across the street to the bar he new all too well.
"Hey Joe." He says as he slumps onto one of the wooden bar stool.
"The usual?" He asks.
"Make it a double." Joe slides his drink across the counter. Derek takes it into his hands swirling it around before downing the whole thing.
"Long day?" Someone asks. He looks to his right, choking a little at the sight of the beautiful women a few stools over from him. She's absolutely stunning. Her blonde hair falls angelically against her shoulders. Her mesmerizing green eyes glow even in the dim light of the bar. He swallows hard, smiling.
"You could say that." He answers. "So what's your story?"
"My story?" She asks with a little laugh.
"Yeah, everyones got one."
"I'm just a girl in a bar." She smirks, scooting over so that she's sitting directly beside him. "You?"
"I'm just a guy in a bar." He answers, getting another drink.
"Well guy in a bar, how about we get out here?" He downs his drink, and grabs his coat. This is exactly the kind of distraction he needs, he thinks as they climb in his car.
Next thing he knows he's waking up on a strange couch, in a place he doesn't recognize. Most of the night is a drunken blur. His memory of the night before starts to fall into place as the women from the night before pulls the blanket off of his body leaving him completely bare. The booze, the sex, oh the sex. He smirks remembering every second of it. He props his head up on his elbow, looking up at her.
"This is....uh Humiliating...on so many levels." She says standing with her body wrapped in the blanket he was just using. He scans her body with his eyes, god she's beautiful he thinks to himself. "You have to go." She says with a smile, as she starts out of the room.
"Why don't you come back here, and we'll pick up where we left off?" He says, wanting nothing more than be with her...again.
" No, seriously. You have to go." She laughs. "l'm late for work. Which isn't what you want to be after just starting a job, so...."
"So, uh, you actually live here." He interrupts her looking around at the empty house full of cardboard boxes.
"No."
" Oh."
"We'll Yes....Kind of."
"Oh. lt's nice. A little dusty, odd, but it's nice." He laughs awkwardly. Just wanting to know more about this mystery girl. "So, how do you kind of live here?" He asks.
"l moved two weeks ago from Boston. lt was my mother's house. l'm selling it."
"Oh, l'm sorry." He says sincerely.
"For what?" She asks, letting out a small laugh.
"You said 'was'"
'' Oh, my mother's not dead. She's...You know what? We don't have to do the thing." She says standing by the doorway.
"Oh, we can do anything you want." He smirks from his place on the couch, still butt naked.
"No, the thing...exchange the details, pretend we care....l'm gonna go take a shower, and when l get back down here, you won't be here, so, um Goodbye, um..."
"Derek..." He says with a laugh.
"Derek....Right....Meredith."
"Meredith." He repeats.
"Yeah...." She says awkwardly.
"Mm-hmm...." he stands up and starts to gather his clothing that was sprawled all over the room. "Nice meeting you!" He calls after her as she hurries up the stairs.
"Bye, Derek." She calls back, laughing at the uncomfortable situation as she closes the bathroom door.
