The next day Derek stands outside an elevator waiting patiently for the doors to finally slide open. He'd already taken Josie up to daycare and was ready for his day to begin. He was actually on time today, his spirits much higher than they have been lately. He's scrolling through his phone, exploring the wonders of Seattle when he catches some movement out of the corner of his eye. He looks up to see Meredith a few steps ahead of him, her back to him, a pile of patient charts hugged to her chest. He can't help but smirk.

"Seattle has ferryboats." He tells her with a smile.

"Yes" she replies without turning around.

"I didn't know that. I've been living here six weeks. I didn't know there were ferryboats." He says, happy with his discovery.

"Seattle is surrounded by water on three sides." she says, glancing back at him just long enough to roll her eyes. She laughs a little.

"Hence the ferryboats." The elevator doors finally open revealing it empty.. "Now I have to like it here." He says as they both step inside. Meredith stands with her back pressed to the rear wall, while Derek stands in the middle, his back facing her. "I wasn't planning on liking it here. I'm from New York, I'm genetically engineered to dislike everywhere except Manhattan." He continues with a chuckle as the doors slide shut closing the two of them inside. "I have a thing for ferryboats."

"I'm not going out with you." She says suddenly.

"Did I ask you to out with me?" His voice is nonchalant at first, trying to play it cool. "Do you want to go out with me?" He asks with a cocky smirk, unable to contain the slight excitement in his voice.

"I'm not dating you, and I'm definitely not sleeping with you again. You're my boss."

"I'm your boss's boss." He corrects.

"You're my teacher and my teachers teacher..." she pauses for a second. "...and you're my teacher." She says again with more emphasis this time.

"I'm your sister...I'm your daughter" Derek teases in response.

"You're sexually harassing me."

"I'm riding an elevator." He says, still facing with his back to her. His smirk grows with every passing second trapped in here with her. He may be cocky, but he can feel the tension. He knows it's mutual no matter how badly she wants to pretend like it's not.

"Look, I'm drawing a line. The line is drawn. There's a big line." She says. He can hear the agitation in her voice, and he knows it's not towards him. He finally turns to face her, his smirk warping into a full smile.

"So..this line.. is it imaginary? or do I need to get you a marker?" he asks, the sexual tension between them so intense he could hardly fight it. Apparently the feeling is mutual because Meredith drops the stack of patient charts onto the floor, letting them scatter all over the elevator as she throws herself into him. Their lips meet halfway, their hands clinging to each other like the space between their bodies is killing them and the only relief is to close it out. He spins them both around, pressing her against the hand rail as he kisses her. The energy radiates between them, magnetic. She takes back control shoving him back against the wall, kissing him like the oxygen shared between them both is the only thing keeping her alive. The elevator dings as they climb closer and closer to her destination. And soon the doors open forcing them to fling apart. Meredith frantically gathers her paperwork off the floor and hurries out into the hallway without another word. "We'll talk later then?" He calls after her, but between the rush of people shoving their way into the elevator and the heavy traffic of the hallway theirs no way he would have heard her even if she were to reply. She disappears around a corner before the elevator doors even have a chance to close, leaving him breathless. An unshakable smile is glued to his face, or so he thought.
