Chapter 5

"I'm in love with you Erik." You cut him off before he could finish his sentence.

"What did you say?" Erik asks, standing up in shock.

"I said I love you Erik." You responded, standing up to look him in the eyes as you spoke.

"They're coming for me Ana. We can't be together." Erik tells you, looking away.

"Who is? What's happening?" You ask, almost in a whisper. "Tell me!" You demand when he doesn't answer.

"They think I've done something. They're coming to take me and do only God knows what to me." He mumbles to himself, starting to pace around the bathroom.

"Who Erik?" You push, trying to move closer to Erik. He holds his hand up to stop you but you continue anyway, stopping only when you are standing right in front of him.

"The humans!" He hisses angry, but then glances at you and corrects himself. "The government."

"You have the government after you? What did you do?!" You yell panicked. Will they come after you too?

"I only tried to help someone like me! It went wrong and ended up being a disaster." He pauses and takes a shaky breath. "I killed the president of the United States."

"Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God" you said backing away from Erik. Tears stung in your eyes.

"You killed John F. Kennedy?!" You start hyperventilating.

"Yes." Erik doesn't try and lie, he doesn't tell you that this is all a joke. "I think it's best that you leave, before they find me."

"You don't understand Erik! They will come after me too! We've been seen together to many times to just be a coincidence. I might be wanted too!" You start screaming at him, panicking about the facts.

"Analise listen to me. I am wanted, not you. The government will come after me, not you. And they will find me." He takes your tear-streaked face in his hands.

"I don't want them to catch you with me. I don't want your last memory of me to be the police dragging me away."

"I'll miss you Ana. And how you changed me into a better man. It's just bad luck that I strayed from it." Erik places a light kiss on your lips before letting go.

He understands how upset and scared you are right now. He doesn't understand why you didn't run away screaming when you told him. But he is thankful that you have given him the chance to say goodbye.

You stare at each other for a moment, not truly wanting yo say goodbye. It is a bit of time before you decide to do something.

You throw your arms around his neck and stand on your tippy toes to connect your lips. The kiss is passionate as you hold each other close, refusing to let go. Only until a loud knock on the main door sounds through the apartment.

"Open up Lehnsher!" A man yells.

"Erik I'm scared." You admit, not trying to hide your emotions from him.

"Analise. I love you. I don't want to go but I don't want you to get hurt. Forget about me and move on. Find someone else to love. They have got all the evidence they need to lock me away forever." He places another hasty kiss on your lips.

"Now go. Take the fire escape and don't look back. Hurry before anyone sees you."

Erik quickly helps you fit through the bathroom window before closing it behind you.

You climb down the metal stairs and platforms as fast and as quiet as possible. Tears are making your eyes blurry and causing you you to stumble.

You don't hear the bathroom door being forced open but you do hear a mans shout.

"GET ON THE FLOOR NOW!" is what you hear as you reach the ground.

Not being able to go any further, you sit on the bottom step of the fire escape that leads into a narrow alley. The tears don't stop falling as your brain tries to comprehend what just happened.

You stare down the alley and into the street with unfocused eyes. As a group of police cars pass, you drop your head into your hands. Erik is gone, the love of your life is gone.

It's hard to explain how I know that he is the one, but here goes. Since day one, we have gotten along. We never got tired of each others company. We never fought, over anything serious anyway.

Just somehow you knew that he is meant for you, and you for him. Erik was arrested and has left you feeling as if your life is over. He is gone and never coming back.
