Her name was Rosaleen Channing.
She couldn't prevent the hiss from escaping her lips as she felt the first raindrops land in her red hair. She trudged through the forest, majorly regretting wearing her nice wedges as the dirt beneath her feet turned to mud.
She quickly scurried underneath a tree to pull out her phone. She found her way to her text messages, rereading the very message that brought her into this disgusting, insect-infested hellhole of a forest.
"meet me in the cabin in the forest in 10"
Slipping her phone back into her purse, she carried on. Less than a few minutes. That was all. Then she'd be dry.
Or perhaps not.
She slowly pushed open the door, aware of the house settling around her. Rain was dripping through a hole in the roof, leaving the wooden floor beneath rotten and soft. Shadows casted dark figures across the walls, creating monsters wherever she went.
So she went no where, instead just entering the first room. No one was here?
"Hello? I'm here...?"
She waited for a moment, peering cautiously into the hallways and room around her. She called out, again and again.
No one responded.
She admitted defeat, stomping a foot on the ground. They had tricked her into coming to this stupid cabin for no reason at all!
She turned back to the front door, ready to leave and forget this ever happened.
But someone was standing in her way, locking the door. The figure, dressed in all black and clutching a knife, turned to face her.
Now, she had never been a very good student. No one who'd ever met her would describe her as "smart" or "intelligent". In fact, they'd most likely say the opposite. She had a pretty face, though. Not much behind it.
But it didn't take a GPA of 4.0 to realize when your life was in danger.
She screamed, turning away from the door. Her purse fell from her hands--her cell phone sliding underneath a cabinet--as she bolted up the stairs.
The figure followed. Running was unnecessary. There was no where for their victim to go. No where to hide. She could run, but would not be able to escape forever.
Desperate for escape, she tore through the wooden hallways. A tiny part of her knew it was hopeless to try to get away. But why? Why her? What had she done?
Oh, she knew what she had done. What hadn't she done? She was awful. A bully. She deserved this.
She didn't stop running, her heart racing but at the same time her mind was blank. Her veins coursed with fear and adrenaline.
She didn't want to die.
She found her way to the second story balcony.
So did her chaser.
"Please!" she pleaded, holding out her hands in front of her. "Please! I know that I did you wrong, but please--! Don't do this!"
She melted to her knees, staring up at the person before her. They blinked, glancing at the knife in their hands.
"I'm sorry!" she cried, "I'm so sorry!"
Her killer spoke for the first time. Interestingly enough, it was also the last thing she heard.
"Sorry's not good enough."
Her name was Rosaleen Channing.
