It was Friday. And Wyatte felt like sh--completely awful. Staying up late exploring the murder-cabin had been a terrible idea, of which he regretted severely. He'd really only agreed because he knew that Lucia would never leave him alone if he didn't. She kept insisting that he was a "valuable asset" or whatever it was that she had said.

Otherwise, very little had changed since yesterday. People still crowded around him like paparazzi. Swimming through the hallways, dodging questions left and right, he struggled just to make it to his classes.

He'd been left alone when one of the secretaries swept through the hall and demanded that everyone get to class.

However, when someone smacked his stuff out of his hands and hissed "queer" as they'd walked off, Wyatte realized things were slowly returning back to normal. As he dropped to the ground to recollect his items, he became vaguely aware that he wasn't actually alone.

Someone had crouched down in front of him and was helping him pick up his stuff. He didn't pay them any attention, instead focusing on collecting his pencils.

"When was the last time you got a good night's sleep...?" a soft voice suddenly said, and Wyatte froze. "You look like a complete mess, Wyatte."

Wyatte glanced up, and when his own eyes locked with the beautiful brown eyes of Jasper Moreau, he felt his breathe hitch in his throat.

"Well, if I'm being honest, I feel like a complete mess," Wyatte said quietly, purposefully avoiding looking at Jasper.

Jasper didn't have to ask. And he didn't even know the whole truth.

Wyatte then stood on his two feet. He offered a hand, but Jasper did not accept. Wyatte quickly pulled his hand back.

It was fine with him, no big deal at all, he was perfectly okay with that. It wasn't like they'd been together for more than a year or anything.

Wyatte scoffed at himself. How could he even think something like that? He knew perfectly well why Jasper hadn't taken his hand. The answer was simple, really. But at the same time, it was far too complicated for Wyatte to understand. But, it was because...

Because Jasper was scared.

Neither Wyatte nor Jasper had gotten the chance to come out of the closet; both of them had been yanked out by the hair by none other than Rosaleen. And right now, both of them were dealing with the consequences of that.

This particular problem was Wyatte's least favorite. Out of all the harassment, all the mortification, he hated the most that everything was so... awkward between him and Jasper. For the past two weeks, Jasper had gone to such extreme lengths to avoid Wyatte entirely. And yet, right now, he was standing directly in front of him.

And what was Wyatte supposed to say? An apology? That felt right, but then... What should he apologize for? What shouldn't he?

Wyatte opened his mouth to say something, but Jasper beat him to it.

"I-- Wyatte, I'm so sorry."

"W-What for...?" Wyatte was the one who should be apologizing, he knew that much.

"What not for? I've been avoiding you for the past two weeks! I know I have been! I didn't even say anything when-- Rosaleen--! I don't even know what to say! I just-- I-- This is my fault!"

Jasper buried his face in his hands. Wyatte took a step forward and reached a hand out, but Jasper flinched away.

Wyatte tried his very best not to let it bother him.

"Jasper, please, don't-- don't say that. It's not your fault. Not at all. If anything, it's my fault. I should've checked the window, but I didn't, and now we're here."

"What are you talking about? We were at my house, I should've checked the window!"

"No, no, no. Definitely not. I know--I knew how scared you were for anyone to find out. I never cared as much as you did. I knew that you weren't ready for anyone to know and I should've been more responsible about it."

"Stop blaming yourself!" Jasper snapped.

"But it is my fault!"

Jasper suddenly placed both of his hands on Wyatte's shoulders, and Wyatte felt electricity shoot through his veins.

"Don't you dare say that ever again..." Jasper said, quietly but with a strange amount of firmness in his voice. "It is not your fault."

Then, Jasper was leaning in. And Wyatte was too, standing up on the tips of his toes. Wyatte's eyes fluttered closed as Jasper's hands disappeared from his shoulders.

But he never felt Jasper's soft lips against his own.

"You really look like a fish, Wyatte."

Wyatte's eyes shot back open, and he quickly realized that Jasper was halfway down the hall, walking backwards. Jasper was waving at him with a stupidly dorky, just so so so adorable grin on his face.

"Jasper!" Wyatte hissed indignantly.

Jasper didn't say anything, just turned around and kept walking.

Wyatte had been very late to class, but he couldn't even pretend to care. Not even when one of the boys cooed, asking if he'd been with his boyfriend. Because, for the first time in two weeks, he had.

As he sat in his desk, he placed his elbow on the desk and leaned on his hand. A soft sigh fell from his lips.

What had he ever done to deserve Jasper?
