Chapter Nine

Roman brushed the anxious Side's bangs out of his face as he slept peacefully, noticing something he'd never seen before. Barely visible under his white foundation and black eyeshadow, were specks of freckles. The prince let out a soft gasp, gently brushing his thumb over them as held the sleeping Side's face.

"And I thought you couldn't get more adorable," he murmured, smiling wistfully as he kissed his cheek and laid down to fall asleep next to him.

Within a few minutes, Virgil's eyes fluttered open. He wasn't a very deep sleeper, and rarely got more than a few hours of sleep at night because of his body's habit of waking up after a few minutes. He felt warm, realizing Roman had fallen asleep and pulled him close to his chest. The anxious Side blushed but smiled as he relaxed into the prince's arms, deciding to make the most of this nice feeling.

He rolled around a little, laying on his stomach rather than his back. He couldn't fight the smile on his face as he reached up to play with Roman's slight curls. They were more like little waves, the stereotypical perfect wavy prince hair you'd see in an animated movie or a fantasy film.

"Why do I think you're so pretty while I think I'm so ugly when we technically look the same?" Virgil whispered. He ran his finger down his facial features gently, tracing his cheekbones with a thoughtful smile. "Maybe it's because we're all a little different in our own ways that are almost unnoticeable from far away."

The prince was definitely a deep sleeper, barely shifting in his sleep through his whispers and gentle touches. "I really like you, Roman..." he breathed, relaxing against his chest again. The anxious emo let out a peaceful sigh, thankful to fall asleep again.

This time he stayed asleep, not waking up until early in the morning. His eyes opened slowly as his body slowly woke up. Virgil looked at the time, seeing the clock read 6:30AM. He then looked down at the prince he was still laying on, beginning to carefully wiggle out of his arms. Roman whined, pulling him even closer to his chest. He gasped in shock, face flushing.

Come on Princey... I usually go to the Imagination in the morning, he thought with an internal sigh. It's when the its the most peaceful and the sunrise is gorgeous, so I like to paint it. I don't want to wake you up though! Can't you just... let go and roll over?

Roman couldn't hear his thoughts, snuggling him impossibly closer as if he was a teddy bear. He sighed for real now, a small smile on his lips though. Staying still for a few minutes, the prince relaxed and he managed to get out of his arms. He immediately felt guilty when the creative Side whined and curled in on himself. Biting his lip, Virgil swiftly formed a black teddy bear in his hands and slipped it into his arms. Roman cuddled it close, a smile spreading across his lips in his sleep. The anxious Side smiled affectionately at the sight, hoping this wouldn't be the last time he'd see it.

He made his way out of his room and through the mind, smiling a little as he reached the Imagination just before the sunrise. Summoning his sketchbook, Virgil began sketching Prince's castle and the land around it. He'd finished the pencil art just in time, beginning to paint the sunrise into the sky along with the glistening rainbow of colors it created on the castle. When it was finished, the fog hadn't even dispersed from the soft green grass around him.

Virgil signed it with his special pen, smiling at his completed work before closing the sketchbook to watch what was left of the sunrise.

The one issue with the Imagination was that it calmed him. It calmed him too much. He didn't hear the sound of someone approaching him from behind until there was a hand over his mouth and then everything went black.
