Two sets of feet hit the floor as the two Sides ran, looking around desperately for the dark prince. Neither of them knew where he'd gone, but there was a commotion going on outside in the gardens, making Virgil skid to a halt and rush to the window. "Oh god," he breathed as he looked down at Namor and Deceit fighting below. "Oh god! He can't fight him on his own!"
"Come on," Roman said, pulling him by the hand as they ran through the corridors of the castle.
It took them a few minutes to get down to the gardens, but the anxious Side's heart dropped upon seeing the dark prince lying on the ground. The snake-like Side was cackling and hovering in the air with a yellow aura around him. Virgil rushed to him, kneeling down to help him.
"Namor!!" he cried, reaching him and putting his arms around him as he helped him to his feet. The dark prince looked at him in confusion, wincing as he held his arm. The black sleeve of his suit looked damp with a dark liquid. Panic shot through him as he realized it could only be blood. "Oh god, are you okay?"
"V-Virgil?" he said with half lidded black eyes. "What... What's going on-"
Roman suddenly leapt in front of the pair, sword drawn as he reflected a bright yellow fireball away from them. "Virgil! Get him to safety!" the prince ordered, turning to face the snake-like Side. "Stand down Deceit!"
"Or what? I've already won!" he cackled as the anxious Side tried to guide the limping dark prince away from the fight.
"You haven't won anything," the creative Side retorted, raising his glistening blade with confidence. "The Imagination is my realm Deceit. You can't possibly overpower me here. Just stand down and I promise this will be a lot easier for you."
The lying Side smirked. "You may have power in the Imagination, Roman, but it would do you good to remember that this is the Nightmare Kingdom! Where evil and darkness triumph! You've no way of winning against me here!" he yelled with an evil laugh. "You like Disney, Princey? Well, let's see how snake-like I can be!"
Roman's eyes widened as Deceit began to morph and grow, his blood running cold as he recognized what was happening. The other two watched as well, gasps escaping their lips as he transformed into a massive snake, like Jafar at the end of Aladdin.
"Oh god," Namor breathed as he watched the creative Side leap into battle against him. He shrugged off the helping hands of Virgil, attempting to rush to his aid. "He can't do it alone, I have to help!"
The anxious Side cried out as he ran back toward the battle, fear and anxiety washing over him in massive waves. "Namor! You can't!" he yelled. The dark prince ignored him despite his limping and the bleeding wound on his arm. Watch them fight Deceit was making him hyperventilate. He was panting and shaking. "Breathe, breathe, breathe!"
It didn't help, as he was suddenly falling backwards and his vision went black. Roman dodged as the giant snake's tail lashed toward him in an attempt to knock him back. Having an injury on his leg, Namor wasn't as quick, getting thrown back and painfully hitting the ground further away.
"Now you're mine!" Deceit hissed, slithering over to tower over the injured dark prince. He bared his massive fangs as he moved down to bite or swallow him, but suddenly there was a flash of black fur that made contact with the snake to send him reeling back. It was a cat that had jumped at him. Namor's eyes widened as he recognized its purple markings, realizing it was Virgil. The snake clearly knew this too, turning on him with a threatening hiss. "YOU!"
The cat hissed back and took off deeper into the gardens. Deceit followed with a frustrated yell, disappearing into the trees with a whip of his tail. The creative Side was panting as he watched the beast go, sighing in relief once he was gone. He then rushed to the dark prince's side and knelt down beside him.
"Namor, are you alright?" he asked worriedly as he helped him up.
"Yeah, y-yeah, I'm fine, but we have to go after him," he replied frantically as he tried to stand with difficulty.
Roman put his hands against his chest, pushing him back down. "Namor, you're hurt, it was just a cat, I'm sure it'll be okay," he reassured him. "I need to get you to bed and tend to your wounds, you're- shit, you're bleeding Namor-"
"Ro you don't understand," the dark prince cried, standing up again. "That cat is Virgil!"
The creative Side stopped, looking confused. "What-"
"There's a mechanism in the mind, when he gets really anxious, he turns into a kitten to prevent himself from hurting anyone," he explained quickly. "He turns into a black kitten with purple smudges under his eyes, on his chest, and his tail. He told me about it earlier today."
The prince froze, mind flying back to the days before he'd been taken by Deceit to Namor's palace. That description sounds like Storm, he thought. Oh god, what if... Storm was Virgil the whole time!
"Oh god," he breathed, helping Namor to his feet, looking pale. "We've got to go help him!"
