After hours and miles of walking we finally made it to a road I practically ran into the place when I saw a worn down diner.
I bursted through the door making everyone jump and look at me. I rushed over to the long counter quickly asking the clerk, who looked to be bored with life, for a phone.
"It's for paying customers only" she groaned. I don't have any money, what am I going to do!? Henry came up behind me slapping a five dollar bill on the counter.
"A small order of fries and the phone please" he smiled politely, I looked up at him in surprise how does this dude have money if he lives literally in the middle of nowhere.
"Marvin! Fries! Small!" She yelled loudly before signaling for us to follow. We followed her down a musty looking hallway that led to a phone next to a bathroom that heavily smelled of urine. She then turned giving us a sarcastic smile before leaving.
I quickly picked up the sticky phone dialing grays number on the worn out numbers.
"I'm sorry but the number you have dialed has been disconnected" I hung the phone up before dialing the number again only to get the same response. I then tried Ethan's, Arthur's, Gloria's and the guys numbers but all of them were disconnected. Somethings wrong, really wrong.
" I need to go home" I walked past Henry into the main part of the diner seeing Avery stuffing her face with fries before rushing outside.
"Eve, slow down!" Henry grabbed my shoulder. "What's wrong?"
"All their numbers have been disconnected which means they're in trouble" I impatiently explain as I looked around for some type of transportation.
"What's going on?" Avery asked exiting the diner.
"She needs to go home" Henry informed.
"Okay give her money for a bus ticket and we'll go back home" Avery rolled her eyes shrugging. Henry then sighed grabbing her arm before dragging her away so they could talk.
Henry POV
"Ave, what's your problem?" I crossed my arms looking down at her.
"My problem is that we are going above and beyond for a girl that you found in the woods." She huffed crossing her arms as well. "Why are we doing this for her anyways?"
Honestly, I don't know why I'm doing this. I guess it's just been so long since I've interacted with someone other than Avery, I mean she's my sister I love her more than anything but there are some things can't and won't do with her.
"Ave, think of it as an adventure" I tried to sound enthusiastic to see if she'd go along with it.
"Hen, read my lips. I. Am. Not. Going! Point blank period." She snapped.
"Fine I'll take her, you can go home" I shrugged sighing.
"What!? Hell no, I'm not letting you go out with that stranger"
"She's not some stranger, ave" I chuckled lightly glancing at Evelyn.
"Yes She is, we've known this woman for what, a week? Henry it's not worth it" she scoffed.
"I don't know about you but I want something more than an isolated cabin the woods!"
"Wait, do you think she's attracted to you?" I shrugged looking down making her scoff. "Hello, She has a husband"
Who is probably dead.
"I'm going Avery wether you like it or not" I shrugged before walking off. I can't keep doing the same thing every day, I need something new and Evelyn's my something new.
