Chapter 20,5

Ashton:

I stare at the door. I see my dad in my thoughts. Happily playing with me and my younger brother and sister in the garden. The good old times.

It's a secret I carry with me for way too many many years.

The day I got to know my dad never left us, was awful. I was furious at my mom. She forbid me to say it to anymore and I bravely held my mouth. I almost started to believe it. But I nver forgot the truth.

"Ash", and I look at Rose. Oh right, I would tell her what really was going on.

'Well, my Dad had cancer', I say fast.

"What? Really? I'm so sorry for you Ash", and she hugs me.

After a few minutes of silence Rose asks me a question again.

"What kind of cancer if I may ask?".

'I'm not sure, my mom never told me anything about him. She only said he had a lot of headaches and a tumor in his head', and I look down.

The next sentence is the hardest one to say... 'He died of it', I add silent.

"I honestly don't know how to react...", and she looks away.

'I understand'.

"But still I think you should go to a doctor... Even now I know you're afraid to go, what I completely understand".

"I know your anxiety. Since my family had a car accident and probably won't make it... Since then I'm really afraid to get into a car. I'm afraid it'll happen to me as well. But I have to get into a car if I want to continue living. So I will. What I mean to say is: you have to beat your anxiety to continue living and live life to the fullest".

I think about it. She's right. I have to visit a doctor will I live my life to the fullest. That's what my dad would've wanted. That I continue living and make the best of it.

And maybe if it really is a brain tumor or something like that, and they find it early, maybe it will be treatable.

"Ashton", Rose says quite enthusiast.

'Yes?'.

"Maybe it's not a tumor", and I look questioning at her. What does she mean?

"I mean, you can get headaches from different things. Can you see everything clear when you look around and when you read?".

'Yes'.

"Okay, and are you stressed for the last couple of weeks?". I think about it.

'Yes', quite a lot actually. A lot has happened recently. And a lot will happen for the next months as well. And I feel really stressed about it.

"Okay maybe that's it. Maybe that's the reason why you have a lot of headaches. And when you have headaches from stress, painkillers won't work that well", now Rose said that, I feel a lot better. And my anxiety has partly disappeared.

"We can go visit a doctor today, if you want". It's pretty fast, but I think that will the best for me.

'Okay, that's fine. But don't tell the others about my Dad please... You're the only one who knows about it'.

"Really?".

'Yes'.

"Why haven't you told the others about what really happened with your Dad?".

'I prefer not to talk about it if that's okay to you...'.

"Of course that's okay to me Ash, I won't say anything about it to the others. You only have to tell me things that you want to share".

'Thank you Rose'.

"Your welcome Ash".

Rose is so sweet. And she gives helpful tips. I'm glad I met her.

Liam:

Everybody's hungry, so I go to Rose and Ashton to ask if they wanna have breakfast as well.

When I walk to their room I see Louis still standing in front of the door.

Five minutes ago he told us he needed the toilet, so he went to the other room.

'Why are you still standing here in front of the door?'.

"Uh... I kinda don't want to interrupt them...", and he looks down.

'You're afraid of interrupting people, aren't you? You're afraid they'll get angry at you, right?', and he looks full disbelief at me.

"Y..yes. I know it's stupid. How did you know?".

'Well, I was just kinda guessing, but I guess I'm right'.

"Why are you here?", Lou asks.

'Everyone's hungry so I'm here to ask them if they want to have some breakfast with us. But go ahead and knock on the door', he looks hesitating at me. As if he wants me to knock on the door.

'They don't bite and I'm sure they won't get angry at you', Louis carefully knocks on the door.
