Chapter 18

Y/N walked hand in hand with Barry the next morning as they entered the Cortex. The team was ready and waiting for them.

"What's our next move?" Cisco asked.

"We track down and find Devoe," Barry replied.

"Any suggestion as to how we should do that?" Harry asked; even he was stumped as to how they would possibly find this Devoe character.

Y/N shrugged, "We know the location of where he was keeping us, but he has since abandoned that place...I guess I don't know how we find him," she admitted, hanging her head in defeat.

The team shared glances, each of them slowly branching off to their own workstations, leaving only the two speedsters and Cisco in the Cortex.

Y/N stepped back and left the Cortex, Barry tried to follow her but Y/N wouldn't let him.

"Dude, we'll find this guy, you know that right?" Cisco asked; Barry had been all out of sorts lately.

"I just don't get it," Barry scoffed. "How does someone like Devoe end up with a life sentence without cause or record, and be able to kidnap two speedsters and not have powers."

Cisco agreed, "I don't know, all that matters is that he did, and he can. He didn't hesitate to put Y/N through hell, he knew her backstory, he knew what would make her break... Anyone who can do that, is a threat, one that we have to stop."

Barry nodded, "I'll be back in a bit, I'm going to go check on Y/N," he said turning to leave. Barry had a pretty good idea of as to where Y/N went, he just had to confirm his beliefs.

Barry walked into the pipeline and noticed Y/N sitting on the stairs, her eyes refusing to meet his own.

"Hey," he said taking a seat next to her, "What's up?"

"He didn't hesitate, to make both of us suffer, he knew both of our weaknesses...and we didn't have to say a word," Y/N said turning to finally meet Barry's worried gaze. "He knew everything and he wasn't afraid to let us know that."

Barry leaned against Y/N, putting his arm around her shoulders, "We're okay, we'll get this guy...I promise," he said kissing her cheek.

"Will we?" she asked skeptically. "I mean, I feel like we just beat Thawne, and then I lost you, and now to have this Devoe character come into play...it's a bit much," she admitted, turning to face Barry.

"I know," Barry said leaning his forehead against Y/N's. "But you're not in this thing alone, okay? I'm right beside you," he said running his hands up and down her arms.

"What about the team?" Y/N asked.

"They're working hard to find Devoe, and they will find him," Barry assured. "But I also said that they could go home a little early tonight, I think we all could use a good nights rest."

Y/N furrowed her brows, "Is that why Cisco asked me to take the night shift tonight?" she asked.

Barry chuckled, "More than likely; if it's any consolation I agreed to do it with you."

"Good," she smiled. "Because I plan on staying in the Cortex all night long with Netflix while you run around the city saving people."

Barry put on an offended look, though Y/N knew he was kidding, "How rude," he joked, but inside he was just happy that she was getting back to herself.

"Tell you what, I'll get some Big Belly Burger and we can just have a nice night in, with the occasional running off to save the city in between," Y/N suggested.

Barry smiled, "I'd like that."

"Did anyone ever tell you that you have the best wife ever," she joked.
