DIARY OF A WORTHLESS CUTTER
Chapter 20: Take Your Breath AwayJosh.
"Oli?" I ask one day when we were laying in bed, our daughter was sleeping peacefully in her nursery.
"Hmm?" He hums.
"Wanna order a pizza and invite Jordee and Jackoni's families over for a family game night?" I question, taking my hand and tracing his tattoos.
"You mean you want Roni, her family. Lee, Jordan and Cade. And you want to sit and play Monopoly until we all pass out from exhaustion?" Oli corrects, stifling a chuckle.
"Yup." I say popping the 'p'.
"You call your sister. I'll get Lee on the phone." My husband says with a chuckle and a smile.
"Kay." I agree and get out of bed; it's like five p.m. right now so I know Roni is probably playing dress-up with her babies.I dial her familiar number, seeing her contact name Princess Reckless the Rainbow Chatter Box pop up as I do so. I tap the name and hit send, sitting down on our couch in the living room.
"Swag?" She answers with a giggle.
"Sissy, you busy tonight?" I ask.
"Nope. What cha got in mind broesph?" Roni questions happily.
"Well family game night sound good?" I wonder.
"We will be there in forty-five. Make sure there's pizza!" She chirps.
"There will be, bye love you sis!" I sing.
"Peaceskies, love you bro!" Roni sings happily and I hear the beep! of her hanging up."OLI SHE SAID YES." I call and hear him getting in the shower.
"SO DID LEE!" He hollers.
"OKAY! I'M A ORDER FOOD AND GET THE GAMES AND STUFF!" I tell him.
"KAY!" Oli yells.I go over to our game closet, grabbing the Monopoly before skipping happily over to the table. Sitting them down I grab my phone and dial the pizza number.
"Welcome to Pizza Hut, how may I help you?" A perky female voice asks.
"I need six large stuffed crust pepperoni pizzas, four boxes of cheesy bread sticks and a large salad." I tell her politely.
"Alright. Are you going to pick your order up or do you want delivery?" She questions.
"Delivery please." I say.
"Address?" The girl asks.
"65th Thane's Street." I answer.
"It will be there in about thirty minutes." She informs.
"Kay, thank you." I chirp and hang up.I walk into our bedroom to get dressed. Grabbing a tee and skinny jeans, I happily put them on without looking at them until I was done. A loud laugh falls from my lips, I was wearing my pink skinny jeans with Roni's random doodles all over them and a white t-shirt with red lips on it saying Make Out in white.
About five minutes later, I decide to listen to some All Time Low. I open my laptop and sign onto YouTube. Going to my favorites list, I click on my favorite song by them- Oh, Calamity! It starts playing the lyric video since All Time Low hasn't made a music video for it. Roni used to go on and on, and on, and on, and on, and on about how much that song needs an actual video.
"When I was younger I was certain
That I'd be fine without a queen
Just a king inside his castle
With an ocean in between
Now all I do is sit
And count the miles from you to me
Oh, calamity! We get older by the hour
Watch the changes from afar
Keep forgetting to remember
Where we've been is who we are
Now all I do is wonder
Why we ever set the scene
Oh, calamity! It's such shame that we play strangers
No act to change what we've become
Damn, it's such a shame we've built a wreck out of me
Oh, calamity!
Oh, calamity!I'll remember nights alone
And waking up to dial tones
Always found my greatest moments
In the sound of your hello's
No I struggle to recall
The reasons you would come to leave
Oh, calamity! It's such shame that we play strangers
No act to change what we've become
Damn, it's such a shame we've built a wreck out of me
Oh, calamity!
Oh, calamity! If I catch you on the corner
Will you even know it's me?
Will I look familiar to you?
Do you offer me a seat?
Can we find a new beginning?
Do you turn the other cheek?
Oh, calamity! It's such shame that we play strangers
No act to change what we've become
Damn, it's such a shame that we play strangers
No act to change what we've become
Damn, it's such a shame we've built a wreck out of me
Oh, calamity!
Oh, calamity!Oh, calamity!
Come back to me." I croak out, feeling tears welling up in my eyes. That song reminds me of Oli.When I was younger, I was sure I'd be fine without a wife. Just a man inside his house. Oli was in America, while I was in England- there's an ocean in between (not that you didn't already know this). Once I Googled how many miles it was from him to me. Every night before I went to bed, I counted to that number. Calamity means an event that causes great damage or destruction. Well after Oli, left I caused great damage and destruction to myself.
I feel arms wrapping around my waist and familiar lips placed on my cheek. The familiar scent of cinnamon gummy bears and Jack Barakat's Old Spice body wash engulfs me; it was Roni. I turn around to face her. Soon I was bawling into her chest. I cry until my throat burns, until I had no more tears to cry, until I was just choking out air. I look up at Roni and she takes my head in her hands, using her thumbs to wipe the tears from my eyes.
"Shh, you'll be okay Joshy. He's here. He won't leave, I promise okay?" She coos and I nod.
"The pizza is on the table. Oli is eating salad." Roni informs, as she drags me over to the dresser with a mirror on it.My sister lifts me up onto it with ease. She opens her purse and brings out a makeup sponge, liquid foundation, eye drops, and a tube of clear lip-gloss. Roni opens the foundation and puts some on the sponge. I quirk an eyebrow at her.
"I can make it look like you weren't crying." She explains, starting to spread the foundation around my puffy red eyes.
Once she was satisfied with that she made me tip my head back so she could put the eye drops in them. Roni puts a few drops in each eye, before allowing me to return to normal position. I blink rapidly as she puts the drops, and the foundation away- as well as throwing away the sponge.
"Open your mouth as if you're about to blow Oliver." Roni instructs, making my cheeks heat up as I do what I'm told.
She giggles childishly and starts applying the gloss to my lips. I feel her using her finger to smooth it out and wipe some off.
"Now make a pop sound with your lips." She orders, and I do it.
"Perfect, now speak." Roni tells me.
"Woof." I say with a smirk.
"Good, now where does Oli keep his shirts? I need a new one since this one has snot all over it." My sister questions.
"Oli keeps his shirts in the closet, just grab whichever one you want, just don't take his white shirt with the winged heart on it." I inform
"I HAVE BETTER HAIR THAN ANYONE ELSE, MY HAIR MAKES GIRLS INSTANTLY WET, IT MAKES MOTHERS CRY, IT MAKES BABIES HAPPEN." Roni screams, skipping over to the closet and grabbing a black Drop Dead wolf shirt.I chuckle and watch as she attempted to get out of her shirt but is stuck in it. Her uncoordination making her fall to the floor.
"DAMMIT!" She growls, trying desperately to get out of the shirt.
A few more seconds of her squirming before she starts to panic. Her breathing gets rapid, and she starts to jerk violently at the clothing. I go over and pull it off her, her eyes were pale with fear. My sister is deathly claustrophobic. She was shaking as I pull her to my chest.
"I thought I was going to die." Roni says after a few minutes of just standing like that.
"I wouldn't have let you die." I promise her, and help her into the new shirt.
