Waiting for him to pick up was always the most anxious thing, because it was always unpredictable.

I let out a sigh of relief when it stopped beeping. I could hear shuffling and movements from the other side while the camera turned on.

And there he was.

"Hello?" I said, testing out the audio.

"Hello, Kookie!" He grinned from ear to ear, waving his left hand.

He was on his bed, his arms propped on a pillow.

He was just so adorable.

"Quit staring, Kookie." He giggled. I could see a small blush form on his cheeks as he said that.

"Can't help it," I said, giving him a lopsided grin. "How's things over there? And how are you?"

He groaned, rolling his eyes. "Boring. I did get checked up by the guys again, but other than that, good."

"It wasn't a physical check-up, right?"

"For gods sake — no, Kookie," he said, laughing, his boxy smile showing.

"Okay, good. I just don't like knowing someone else touching you," I said, pouting. He cooed at the sight.

He raised up his hand, his palm facing the camera.

I placed my hand on the screen where his palm was.

(A/N : uhhh if you guys don't get it, it's basically like, jk is placing his hand on his laptop screen where Tae's hand is 😂 just comment if you don't know hhh idk how to explain this jdjajx)

The heat that was radiating from my laptop didn't match the warmth I felt when I physically touched him.

But this would do.

I sighed sadly.

"What's up?" He asked, putting his hand down. I removed my hand from the screen as well, frowning.

"I-I just... Miss you," I said, choking back a sob. His eyes softened.

"I miss you too, Kookie... But we'll see each other soon, I promise." He gave me a reassuring smile.

"I know, I just... I really want to see you, to wrap my arms around you..." It was true, I longed to lock Taehyung in my embrace and feel his soft locks.

I miss the feeling of his lips on mine and the world around us disappearing.

I saw his smile wavering, a tear escaping his left eye.

"P-Please don't cry," I said with a shaky breath. He nodded and wiped his tear away with his blanket.

We just stayed silent, neither one of us attempting to make eye contact with one another.

Sometimes our calls did end up like this, but the silence wasn't awkward, it was calming, in a weird way.

I heard him let out a huge sigh.

"I-I just hope... Something goes right for once, you know?" He said, biting his lip. I nodded, knowing exactly what he meant.

But of course, we both knew that that was just wishful thinking. Nothing went right for us, but at least we were together.

Well, not officially. Yet.

I'd been holding it off, since none of conversations felt appropriate for me to ask the question.

I'd ask him eventually. Just, not now.

"Kookie, don't you have school tomorrow?" He snapped me out of my thoughts, bringing me back to reality.

"Yeah, but it's our last day so it's fine if I skip."

He giggled cutely, making my heart skip a beat.

"Still... You should probably sleep soon. I don't want to keep you awake."

"Tae, I'm not even tired." I stifled a yawn. He raised an eyebrow at that.

"Are you sure?"

"Positive."

I turned my webcam off to prevent him from seeing me yawn.

When he questioned it, I said my laptop was glitching. I could see him rolling his eyes.

"Kookie, go to sleep."

"I want to talk to you." My lips curved into a frown.

"You can do that tomorrow. I'll still be here. I won't leave you."

Damn, I wish he didn't know me this well. Maybe then he wouldn't persuade me to go to sleep.

I sighed in defeat. "Alright then. Goodnight, Tae. I l-love you."

"L-love you too, Kookie."

And the call ended with him waving at the screen and blowing kisses at me.

Sure, we both knew we were into each other even without telling one another. But we still struggled to say the word "love" out loud.

After all, the concept of the word itself was still quite foreign to us. Were we doing all of this right?

Honestly, I didn't know. But we were learning.

Slowly but surely, we were learning.

Together.
