"Yes, mom, I know." I shoved everything I could into my luggage hastily as my mother paced back and forth worriedly.
"What if you get bullied?"
I groaned, annoyance building inside of me.
If she cared enough to ask these questions when I was in high school, she would've known that I knew how to deal with bullies.
"Mom, I'll be fine. Quit worrying. I've done well on my own in high school. Uni won't be any different," I said firmly. She stared at me silently.
"Jungkook... I know I haven't exactly been there for you—"
"Don't have to point out the obvious." I zipped my bag with brute force, but not too much that it would break.
"Jungkook, I'm trying to change. Please listen—"
"That's what you said years ago."
She opened her mouth, but no words spilled out. She slowly closed it back, sighing.
"I'm leaving now," I declared, picking up all my luggage and headed towards the door.
I pushed it open and sped to my car, dumping all my luggage in the back.
"Honey, I—"
"Don't call me that," I said through gritted teeth, walking to the driver's seat.
Why should I suddenly feel so warm towards the woman who wasn't there for me most of the time?
Why did she even come today? To feel like a mother?
If she didn't miss out on her previous opportunities to redeem herself as a mother, maybe I wouldn't be so cold to her.
I slammed the door in her face.
"Call me! Stay safe!" I heard her yell, knocking on the window.
I ignored her and turned on the radio in my car, increasing the volume.
I didn't look back as I drove away from the house.

"Name?"
"Kim Taehyung."
The girl behind the counter mumbled my name syllable by syllable as she typed in something.
"Your papers?"
I opened my bag and fished out a couple of crumpled papers, sending her an apologetic look.
She accepted it with a blank look on her face and scrolled her mouse.
"Room 138. Have a nice year at Seoul University." She handed me a key and called for the next person in line.
I sucked in a deep breath.
This was my chance to start over with Jungkook.
That was the only thought that kept me happy. It sent a wave of excitement through my veins.
I walked to the lift and waited for it to come down, inspecting my surroundings.
Everyone was either hugging their parents, talking in groups or talking to someone else.
Me? I had no one.
And I was fine with that. I recognized a few people from high school, but I just turned a blind eye to them.
Just then, I heard a soft ding emit from the elevator.
The people inside had to squeeze uncomfortably through the crowd of students as everyone else tried to get into the elevator, as if they had been starved for three days and were suddenly presented with a delicious meal.
I wasn't one of those people, but someone had pushed me into the lift.
"Hey!" I yelled, turning around to see a purple haired male, looking at me apologetically.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to push you. The people behind me were urging to get in and bumped into me."
When he talked, I noticed small dimples on both sides of his face.
Adorable.
"It's alright..." I trailed off as I realised I didn't catch his name. He smiled at me, his dimples hollowing.
"Namjoon."
"I'm Taehyung," I said, shaking his hand.
He looked at me curiously, as if he was trying to... Remember?
The elevator stopped, and most of the people got out.
"What room are you in? If you don't mind me asking," I asked, feeling uneasy at his gaze.
"Room 140." His expression changed, his smile reappearing once more.
"Cool! I'm in room 138." I pulled my luggage out of the lift as Namjoon did the same.
He nodded and shot me another grin.
"Whereabouts are you from?" He asked, walking down the corridor. My feet suddenly felt heavy, as if something was dragging me down.
I opened my mouth, but my throat felt dry and scratchy. When Namjoon noticed, he looked at me worriedly.
"A-Are you okay? I... Didn't mean to ask you if it was personal—"
"N-No." I cleared my throat. "I-It's fine. The question just caught me off guard."
He nodded and bit his lip, continuing forward.
"Well, here's your room. I'll see you around, Taehyung." And with that, he smiled at me before walking two rooms down and inserting his key into the lock.
I followed suit, twisting the key and turning the doorknob.
Judging by a pair of shoes that were placed neatly on the shoe rack, my roommate had already arrived.
They looked vaguely familiar. I squinted at them, trying to remember where I've seen this particular pair of black shoes before.
But a whiff of smoke that filled the room was enough for me to realise who my roommate was.
