Caity

Spending the weekend with Austin and his friends had been amazing, and I longingly thought back about sleeping with his arms around me. I had never felt more in my place then when I was with him, and as he used to say, it was almost like that four and a half year gap without contact between us had never been there. Being around him felt exactly the same and just as comfortable as all those years ago, although we had both grown up and Hailey was with us.

I was amazed at how accepting his friends had been regarding me and Hailey, and Austin had told me what his conversation with his dad went like. It felt good to know that the most important people to him made no big deal out of it, or were willing to accept it after some explanation. Not that we could change anything right now anymore...

'Hey Caity, can you help me in room 406 please?,' Rob asked and I looked up from my charts which I hadn't filled in yet because I was thinking about Austin too much.

'Yeah sure...' I got up and stretched, realizing I had been daydreaming for at least fifteen minutes, and I walked up to Rob. Together we helped the old man in 406 on a chair for lunch and Rob dartled around the room to get the patient some personal stuff before getting back to me and plopping on a chair.

'So... Cait?' His eyes twinkled and a smirk played on his lips.

'So... What?'

'How was your weekend in L.A.?' My cheeks turned bright red in an instant, and I focused my eyes back on my charts while Rob let out a chuckle. 'Had fun?'

'Eh... Yeah. It was good. Met some cool people.' I tried to ignore his intense, curious stare at me. 'Nothing happened.'

'Yeah right,' Rob let out. 'Come on, I don't believe you.' He leaned in and whispered: 'No way nothing happened with all that tension between you and him.'

'Shut up!,' I let out, laughing a bit. Some coworkers and patients nearby looked at us and I leaned in towards him too. 'I'm not discussing my potential sex life with you at work,' I softly said before getting up, arranging my paperwork and walking off.

'Oh, so there is a –'

'Rob!,' I said, my eyes warning him to not go on. He smirked again.

'I was already wondering why you seem so glowy, but I think I found the reason,' he said teasing, and I rolled my eyes and disappeared into the medication room.

When I went home and pulled my phone out of my bag later that day, I had three missed calls and a text from Austin. I frowned and opened his message while leaning against my car.

Austin: 'We need to talk.' The fact that he had tried to call me several times and the text he had send created a knot in my stomach, and I dialed his number while biting my thumb nail. He picked up immediately.

'Hey,' he said and I could already tell he was not in a good mood.

'Hi. What's wrong?'

'Ehm... We can't discuss this over the phone, it's too complicated. Are you free tonight? Can I come over?'

'Austin, tell me what this is about, please?' I was getting a little nervous by his rushed tone.

'I will tell you, Cait, but not over the phone. Do you have time tonight?' I sighed.

'Yeah, I guess... I can come your way too, I have two days off now.'

'That would be better, actually. If you don't mind?'
