Immediately, outraged voices filled the once quiet clearing. I kept my head high as people spat at me. They didn't stop. my silence only seemed to egg them on. Eventually, I looked at Rick, then at Daryl.
Rick looked a mess. His eyes were wide with panic, his hands gripping at his brown hair.
Daryl looked better than him. He was watching everything with a detached silence, arms crossed over his torso, his face a stony mask.
"Hey!" I screamed.
That sure got everyone's attention. The clearing was filled with immediate silence, my angry breathing the only thing you could hear. "One at a time. Have you forgotten that, one, we are in a different world. One with walking corpses that are attracted to noise. And two, there are kids here." I motioned to Sophia and Carl. "I don't think they need to hear your fighting."
I started walking towards the kids before ushering them back. "Go into the RV, okay? Stay there while the adults talk. I'll be back in ten minuets at least." I murmured, beginning to shut the door after the kids.
Before I could seal it shut completely, however, a body smashed against the door, catching me off guard, causing the door to swing open. It was little Sophia.
She latched her arms around me, "I understand why you lied to us, Faith." She said, burying her head in between my chin and shoulder., "I still trust you, even if they don't." With that said, she placed a sloppy kiss on my cheek before jumping down and shutting the door behind her. I smiled and shook my head before going back to the gathered adults.
"Okay, now you can kill me with your words." I said, sitting down on the grass.
Almost immediately, outraged shouts filled the air, tossing hurtful words to me. I sat on the grass, allowing the words to be thrown at me. Really just letting people get their anger out. Gradually, people stopped shouting, their words dwindling down to random words thrown out.
"Now that everyone has calmed down, I think it'd be best that we let Faith- wait, what do we call you?" Rick asked, facing me.
I shrugged helplessly. "Faith, Trinity, Same thing to me, really. Well, they both mean the same thing at least."
"Okay, well, I think it'd be best if we let Faith tell us why she lied to us about her true name." Rick said, addressing the crowd. "Though, it's just a name. I don't see what the big deal is." He muttered under his breath shortly after.
Everyone's eyes darted to me, waiting to hear my explanation. "I'm going to be blunt in my explanation." I said, standing up with a bored expression on my face. "When I was younger, my father would inject me with a serum he created. That was his job; making serums, or medicine if you'd prefer it. Some medicines made you stronger, some made you weak. Others healed you, or they could be the cause of your sickness.
"You may have noticed when I randomly got sick a few days ago. That was because I need another dose of the medicine my father injected me with ever since I was eight years of age. The serum he injected me with was a serum that made me stronger, which explains why I was able to overpower Merle when I first arrived here. He said that no daughter of his would be weak. If I don't receive my injection when I get sick, the sickness will eventually over take my body and weaken me to the point of death.
"I told you my name was Faith, because that's what my name means. Trinity means Faith. So in a way, I didn't lie to you, but in a way I did. My mother named me Trinity because she wanted to have faith in her life. My father injected my mother with a serum also. Mine was blue, her's was yellow. Her's didn't make her stronger like mine did. It made her weaker." My voice broke towards the end, but I cleared my throat and pushed on.
"Eventually, she got too weak and she died. She was so weak she couldn't even eat by herself. Hell, she couldn't even eat. Her last words were to me. She said, "Get out of here. Promise me one day you will get out of here." My father laughed while she died." My voice shook as I continued. "Only she called me Trinity. My father only ever called me child, so I became Faith. I carved a person out of my broken remains. When I was at my strongest point, I was able to escape from him. But I didn't leave empty handed. I left with whatever I could get from that place.
"When I was leaving, my father saw me. I should have ran, but I stayed put, waiting for him to get near me. When he was close enough, I killed him. He's the one person I don't regret killing. He deserved what he had gotten. He killed my mother and ruined me." I took a shaky breath, letting my head drop. "When I got to the door, I saw the corpse walking around. I knew what they were. So I ran."
After I had finished my story, there was a silence so thick you could have heard a pin drop. I kept my head bowed and allowed the wave of grief to crash over me. Tears slipped down my cheeks, and I watched with detached eyes as they fell to the dirt covered ground. I didn't hear the heavy footsteps approach me, I only felt my body being pulled so that I was facing someone. Still, I didn't look up. The person pulled me into their chest, and I was overcome with the scent of Daryl.
I broke down then, gut wrenching sobs vibrating through my body as I collapsed against his strong frame. I clung on helplessly, my sobs ripping through the silent clearing. Distantly, I could hear Daryl shushing me, his hand rubbing my back in a comforting manner. Grief clawed it's way up my throat, pushed behind my eyes, and gripped my heart.
The grief monster was back, and it had it's grip firmly in my heart.
