My head pounded as I woke up, my eyes blinking as I forced them open. "How long was I out?" I groaned.
"Half an hour." Came the muffled reply.
"Why are you here? Why not out, doing something?" I groaned, tossing my arm over my eyes.
"I didn't leave." He said.
"Well why not?" I mumbled
" 'Cause I didn't want to." He murmured.
"Why not?" I repeated.
" 'Cause you got sick." He whispered.
"Happens all the time." I shrugged.
"Your running a fever as we speak, Faith." Daryl argued.
"I am?" I frowned, "Oh, guess I've gotten used to it. It happens all the time."
"Why?"
"I don't know."
We fell into silence after my last answer, but my temperature was rising higher, and soon, my body felt as if it was on fire. I had to get up. I sat up quickly, blood rushing through my head and sending the world spinning in my vision.I groaned and rested my head between my legs, waiting for the spinning to end.
"Take it slow. You only just woke up." Daryl laid a hand on my back gently.
"I can't. I'm too hot." I groaned, looking over at him.
"I know that." Daryl smirked.
"Not that way!" I smacked him weakly.
He shrugged, "Eh. Both ways then."
"No, only the 'I'm-going-to-die' hot. Seriously. I feel horrible."
"What can we do?"
"You can't do anything about it. It'll just get worse."
"There has to be something." He begged.
I smiled. "There is nothing. My fever is getting worse, though."
I stumbled over to the river, and dove in, the cool water feeling oh-so-refreshing on my blistering skin. Honestly, I was surprised that the water didn't boil and evaporate.
"Faith! Get back here this instant! You just woke up and your running a fever right now!" Lori's voice rang across the camp.
"But I'm too hot!" I whined.
"I don't care! Get your butt out and back here now!" She screamed.
Grumbling, I crawled out, the cool water running off my body, the force of my fever hit me in full force. I crossed my arms and stomped back up the hill.
"Yes Mom" I drawled, standing in front of her slender figure.
"You are sick young lady! You get back to that mattress this instant and sleep!" She ordered.
Snickers sounded around the camp as people watched our exchange with amusement. I scowled and marched over to the springy mattress.
"Daryl!" I called.
"Hm?" He asked, appearing by my side.
"Your literally the only person who I'd want beside me while I am slowly dying from boredom." I said, laying down on the mattress, "So will you keep me company while I'm on bed rest?"
"Sure. Why not?" The wooden chair scraped against dirt as Daryl pulled a chair over by my mattress.
I flopped down of the springy mat, groaning, "This is not going to be fun."
