My lips formed a small circle as I whistled. Last night had been crazy, this morning was even crazier. Everyone was in a good mood, even Merle. I still couldn't believe that everyone was happy, but instinct said that was going to change. And soon. I knew that my gut instinct would always eventually become true.
"Hi Faith!" Amy called over to me.
I waved and continued over to the fire. The deer Daryl and I had shot had been skinned and the meat was stripped off from the bones. It needed to get cooked so that it wouldn't draw walkers towards our small group.
So that's what I did.
I sat by a small fire and cooked and cooked and cooked. To be honest, it reminded me of my old life, where I would have to cook and cook and cook for my father. My mother and I were lucky if we even got his scraps, so I would have to make extra food just so she could eat. After a couple hours, everyone was up, and the meat was cooked. Now, I was just lounging by the banked fire, whistling the tune to Arms by Christina Perri.
"So, when are you and Daryl going to become an official thing?" Lori, at least I'm sure that it was Lori, asked.
I sat up, "I don't know what your talking about." I looked over to Daryl, seeing him and his brother conversing.
"Really? Cause you to seemed to share a kiss yesterday." One of Lori's slender, black, eyebrows raised.
"It wasn't him. He was pressured into kissing me. Look at him now. He's talking to his brother and probably saying how much he regrets kissing me. Believe me, I'd know." My gaze lingered on his form.
"That is pure ridiculousness. Everyone knows that he cares for you, more care than he's ever cared for, for anyone. He cares more for you than he does for his brother."
"Your just saying that. Lori, I've gone through my whole life being told what I am and what I look like. Daryl can't care for me. It's not in a men's systems to care for a woman like me."
"You stop talking like that right now young lady!" Carol ordered, coming up to us and sitting down.
I laughed, "Well hello to you too!"
"You are a wonderful young lady, and Daryl will be lucky if he can spend the end of the world with you."
"You are all missing the point. I am who I am. Nobody would want to be with me. Not even Daryl."
"I wouldn't even what?" Daryl's voice sounded behind me.
Oh, crap.
"Faith seems to think-" Lori began, but I cut her off.
"Nothing! Nothing." I sent a look to Carol and Lori that clearly said, 'This conversation is to stay between us three'
They only shared an identical look of mischief. "So, it seems that Faith thinks-"
I sprung up, "Daryl, can I speak with you please?" I grabbed his arm and walked away from the two giggling woman, grumbling obscenities under my breath.
We stopped under a tree, providing us with shade. "What did you need to talk to me about?" He asked.
He had no idea. Okay, maybe that was a lie. He probably knew something, but he was innocent of what I was about to tell him.
I drew in a deep breath, steadying myself for what I was going to say, then released it slowly, deciding against it. "Never mind. It's not important." To you, I added silently.
"You sure?" He asked.
I smiled softly, "Yeah, I'm sure."
"Okay then."
