EIGHT DAYS LATER

HANNAH’S POV:

Spread across the bed to mine and David’s suite here in Rio with my clothes on for tonight’s final against Spain, I felt my nerves already beginning to start kicking in. “Babe you’re going to do fine, I know you will.” Speaking in a soft yet calm tone voice down the phone to David in a way of trying to keep him composed due to the nerves he had felt ever since coming to the realization that it is in fact Spain they will be playing, it really did not seem to be working out for me at all. As still, David continued to show extreme nerves and stress from the other line of the phone. But thinking about it, can I blame him? “Just look at the squad you have, it’s full of so much talent, you of course included in that.” But still, he seemed to not buy it.

“Hannah, babe, as much as I really do appreciate how supportive you’re being for me I know it isn’t going to be an easy game. Spain are World Cup champions remember.” Hearing what he had to say I immediately rolled my eyes to myself. Sighing heavily whilst holding my head in my hands on the bed. “We don’t stand a chance, just look at the run they had last year at the European Championship, winning it. We’re the underdogs.” Is there ever going to be any getting through to this man on match day? As quite frankly, I am under the impression that no matter who it is he may be playing he will always be in this foul sort of mood during the preparation stage. But if this is how he gets pumped, then so be it, as who am I to stop him?

Sitting up on the bed and straightening my clothes out across my body in a way to decrease the chance of them creasing I sighed heavily to myself, trying to be the influential girlfriend I always try to be towards him on a hard match day. “As long as you all try as hard as you can then no one can ask for anymore. Yes there’s a chance you may lose but then again, there’s a chance you could win.” Taking a pause in my words I could just imagine that David was to be mentally rolling his eyes at me with a smirk upon his lips – something he without a doubt always seemed to do whenever I try giving him a pep talk. “Just try and think positive babe and remember; no matter what the result I’m always going to be your side no matter what.”

“Oh Hannah.” Laughing a little it brought a smile to form across my lips, finally a little hint of positive energy from him. “It really wouldn’t be match day without you giving me some sort of a talk, would it?” Still slight rays of laughing continued to come from him once he finished speaking, to which I responded quickly in a way of agreeing with him. “Well I’m glad I always have you by my side, I wouldn’t want it any other way.” Causing me to giggle this time it was not long until I heard the loud bellow of a Portuguese voice coming from the background of mine and David’s conversation, sounding a little like Scolari if I had to drop a name. “Babe I have to go, the team talk’s just about to start. But I’ll text you when I can, yeah? I love you.”

“Don’t worry babe, I understand.” I smiled to myself, supporting my back with a pillow while picking off loose pieces of fluff from my jeans. “Well if I don’t get to hear from you until later on then good luck, and I love you too David.” And with that once we said our final goodbyes to one another I hung up the phone, smiling like an idiot to myself as I placed it inside of my bag. Taking a gander over at the clock resting on the bedside table next to me I noticed as it read half past five, meaning an hour and a half until the match started. So with that I picked my bag up and stood up, quickly leaving in order to pick Ludy up from her suite on the way.

Making my way down the hallway to both mine and Ludy’s suites I was already aware of the loud music being produced from the outside and if it is going to be anything like it was from the game against Italy, then Ludy and I are in for a treat on our travels to the stadium. And luckily for me it did not take long for me to get to Ludy’s suite, so with a knock on the door I waited patiently for her to answer. To which she soon enough did exactly that, greeting me with a wide smile as the door opened. “Oh look who has actually managed to be on time for once then.” Letting a giggle of laughter escape from her lips as I stepped inside of the suite I returned it with an easy shake of the head, but one deemed with nothing but amusement.
