I told him quite down the nose that my poor little widowed mother couldn't possibly cause a disturbance. Joey took that to be a good thing, and left before I could add "as much as you do."
Really, my mother is quite the woman of class. She'll make a disturbance if she wants to make a disturbance. And people wonder where I get my independence!
After Papa died in the Great War—may his soul rest—Mama didn't miss a beat. She mourned him and all the while honored him by keeping her family strong without wavering. Mama's all about persevering joy, see. She knows how to find amusement in the little things, and everything's brighter with her around.
She was never one for men to talk down to women. Oh, I can't wait to see how she handles Mister Joey Drew.
