Where Are We...?

Chapter Six

-Steve Rogers-

Steve bent down and touched the ground where his best friend had just disintegrated.

"Steve? Ya alright?" Sam bent down. It had been 2 days since it happened, and Steve had only spoken in 'yes,' 'no,' and 'thank you.'

Sometimes his "good boy" act was a bit too much.

"You know we're here here for you," Natasha bent over. "You know we loved him, too."

"Where's Tony?" Steve asked, his voice very sore.

"We're still working on getting him off that planet."

Steve, exhausted, sat down all the way. Bucky's ashes stood out among the dirt. "Please leave me."

"Okay. Be back before the sun sets. You need to eat," Sam says, and him and Natasha are gone.

The strong, straight look on his face disappeared and he sobbed, he cried, and he couldn't stop. Why Bucky? Why not Tony?

Of course he didn't mean that. Maybe.

The thing is, he didn't know if he meant it or not.

Was their relationship normal, like Tony and Pepper?

Okay, bad example.

But was it normal? And does it matter?

Over the few years he'd been in this new time, he'd heard a lot more than the 1920s would've ever even considered about gay people. Was he gay? Maybe. For Bucky, yeah. Hell yeah. But for any other guy?

And telling everyone. The thing that inspired most of their fights. In fact, they'd been in a fight before...

Steve choked on his spit a little bit. He couldn't say it.

He leaned over and rested his head beside Bucky's small area of ashes.

"I love you, I love you so damn much," Steve mumbled to absolutely no one. "Damn, Buck, the last time I cried like this was when I got you back from HYDRA."

He rolled over and sobbed. "You're so stupid, going out, getting killed. You need to stop dying, asshole.

"I told you I was here for you 'till the end of the line." Steve touched a finger to the ash. "And this isn't the end of it.

"We'll meet that together one day, when we're greying and have a dog and you get a better arm. But that day hasn't come yet.

"We'll be there together."
