millie

time flies by as i prepare for my date with finn. fifteen minutes is spent picking out an outfit and getting dressed. another fifteen for hair, and then twenty to curl my hair and style it in a half up, half down hairstyle. by the time i'm done, i have only ten minutes until i'm supposed to be at his condo. i apply another quick swipe of mascara, my hand quivering slightly. i don't know why i'm so nervous, i've been on plenty of dates with finn before. maybe because this is our first date since we broke up.

i tug anxiously at my off the shoulder, navy blue dress. i put my hair behind my ear. no, that looks weird. i put it back over my ear, smoothing it down. do i keep it like this or put it behind my shoulders?

there's still seven minutes. i'm sure finn wouldn't care if i showed up early. i mean, i have nothing else to do. i say goodbye to paige and grab my phone, then head out the door. i walk briskly to finn's condo and gently push open the door. "i'm here, finn!" i call, heading down his hallway. he pokes his head out of his door.

"wassup," he replies, relaxed. just be like him, millie.

"can i come in?" i ask.

"sure."

i slowly enter his room, placing myself down on the bed. "i don't wanna go to the cast party tomorrow." he says.

i raise my eyebrows in a questioning way. "why not? i'm excited for it."

"just cause that means i'll have to say goodbye to everyone." he replies, double checking himself in the mirror. he shrugs it off. "ready?" he says in a fake, romantic voice. he holds out his arm, and i take it, laughing.

"see, now i wanna stay home!" i joke.

"ha ha. very funny mills." he deadpans, leading me out to the hallway. we maintain a steady chatter as we make our way down to aurora. we don't have to wait for a table, and we sit down instantly.

"can i get you any drinks?" our waitress asks. i order a lemonade, and finn just sticks with water.

"ah, sticking with the traditional finn water i see," i comment once the waitress leaves. our drinks arrive, and then our appetizers that we ordered. then we get a gift from the kitchen, an amuse bouche.

then, finally, our food arrives. i cut up my filet mignon into small pieces, starting to eat. while finn isn't looking, i snatch a french fry off his plate. "i saw that you know," he chuckles, taking a spoonful of mashed potatoes off mine in return.

we keep doing this for a while, stealing bites of food off of each other's plates. by the time we're done, it's almost like i've had two meals. i take my napkin off my lap, wiping away the residue of food off my mouth. finn writes a check for our food, even after my objections. i pick up my phone from the space beside me, and we hold hands as we exit the restaurant.

"still up for eliza's?" finn asks, squeezing my hand.

"of course!" i answer, tugging him forward. we approach the familiar, cozy looking coffee house in no time at all. we both order our usual, and this time, i buy a blueberry muffin for us to split. "this is on me," i tell finn.

"but-" he starts to talk, but i cut him off.

"no buts. i'm paying," i slip the cashier worker, rachel, ten dollars. he groans, finding a table for two off in the corner of the building. i wait at the counter to receive our drinks. rachel soon brings me a plate that contains two steaming cups off coffee, and the largest blueberry muffin i've ever seen. i carefully carry the plate to our seat and set it down. finn reaches for the cup, and i move his hand away, warning him that it's hot. he shrugs, and takes a huge gulp of the drink. i stare at him with wide eyes. "what's wrong with you?!" i laugh.

"many things, mills, many things," he chuckles back, putting an arm around me. we finish up our drinks, and then we head towards the muffin. we split it in half, and we each devour our pieces.

once finished, we head back to our condos, maintaining a constant, relaxed chatter. we get on the elevator together, and then we both approach my door. "hey, can i come in for a sec?" finn asks.

"uh, sure?" i answer, somewhat confused. i push open the door, and then hands cover my eyes and i jump back.

"just me," finn explains. "keep walking."

hesitantly, i step forward. once i'm a few steps into my living room, finn slowly uncovers my eyes. i look around the apartment, amazed at what i see. finn has somehow decorated the entire room, and from what i can see, it leads down to my room too. streamers hang on the walls, along with fairy lights. there's a giant teddy bear on the couch, along with a giant plastic bin, overflowing with candy, and pictures of finn and i litter the wall. i turn to finn. "this is amazing!" i exclaim, wrapping him in a hug.

"i'm glad you like it!" he kisses the top of my head.

"how'd you even do this?" i ask, still looking around the room. i mean, this wasn't here when i left to go to his condo this afternoon, and he was with me all night.

"i bought all the stuff and got caleb and gaten to come set it up while you were with me," he explains, following me around.

"tell them thank you. i love it." i kiss him on the lips this time. when we pull apart, we both have smiles on our faces.

"i'm glad. i love you," he whispers.

i repeat back those three words.

he sticks around in my condo for a while. we dig into the candy, cuddling up on the couch and watching a movie. soon enough, it gets pretty late, and he has to leave. i go back into my room and fall asleep in only a few minutes.
