After four hours and seventeen minutes of pure panic, I was able to go see Dally in prison. Sodapop was at Sandy's. He said he wanted to work things out with her even though she "messed up." How ignorant.
"Darry are you ready?" I asked. He was taking me to the prison. He said I couldn't go alone.
"Alright I'm ready let's go." I and opened the door and hurried to the car. The prison was clear across town. It never seemed like a bad thing until now.
"Tristan have you ever been to a prison?" Darrel interrupted my thoughts about Dallas with a question I wish I could answer differently.
"Yes."
He nodded his head and knew not to ask although he was wondering. "My uncle was arrested. My dad and I went to see him once a week until his release." I informed him. He nodded once again, this time sympathetically.
"There!" I yelled and pointed when I saw the sign.
"I know this isn't my first time here." He chuckled. "I've had to get Dally out a lot. Steve and Two-bit just a couple times." I admired Darry. He was exceptionally heroic when it came to watching over these boys.
We walked to the entrance that I imagined Darrel had used more than he wished. Darry stayed close to me and we walked over to the desk where a lady sat patiently.
"Can I help you?" She asked kindly.
"We're here to see Dallas Winston." Darrel informed her.
"Alright but one at a time. Ma'am you can come first." She directed me to where I needed to go next but Darry stopped me.
"I'd like it if we went together. She's my little sister and she has panic attacks at times and I'd like to be with her in case one of her attacks occur." He lied very well. I stood silently afraid that if I spoke I'd give away his bluff.
"Very well. Come with me." She lead us to a small room and we sat and waited for Dallas.
Shortly after the door opened and Dally entered. I ran to him and hugged him. "Dallas." I cried out. He wore chains on his wrists and ankles and was dressed in an orange jumpsuit.
"Hi baby." He whispered into my hair. I pulled away and he shook Darrel's hand and smiled at him.
"Dally what did they say? Can we get you out?" I asked anxiously.
"No baby I can't. I don't got much time since it was self defense and I was saving you. But I have 2-5 years in here no bail." My eyes filled with tears at the sound of this.
"Years.." I mumbled. I felt Dally squeeze my arm.
"Baby it's gonna be okay. I might get out sooner for good behavior okay?" He tried to cheer me up but it wouldn't work.
My face didn't change. I Still wore the empty shocked expression I had before.
"Tristan." He leaned his forehead against mine. "I can't ask you to wait on me.." he said slowly.
I whipped my head up in shock. "What?"
"I can't ask you to wait on me. You have to move on.."
"No! No Dally I want you and only you!" I exclaimed but I knew he wouldn't budge.
"Baby stop. Don't make this harder on me than it already is." He pleaded.
"You left me for prison once already Dallas Winston. Don't do this again." My eyes began to spill as I begged Dally not to do this.
"Move on Tristan. It's over." His voice was harder now and less sympathetic.
"Dally-"
He knocked on the door indicated he was ready to be taken back to his cell. "Goodbye Tristan." He kissed me head and I reached for him but Darry pulled me back.
"No." I said quietly. "No. No!" My voice grew louder as Darry held me back while Dallas walked out the door.
"No!! Please!" I squealed a painful scream. Darrel held me tightly while I collapsed on the floor. He held me while I screamed and cried for what felt like and eternity. Screaming for my boyfriend who had been taken from me. He saved my life, and was being punished for it.
I must have fallen asleep in Darrel's arms in between the cries. I woke up on the couch at the Curtis place a few hours later. My fave felt dry and empty from crying so long. I could hear Sodapop and Darry arguing when I woke up.
"I don't know what else to do Darrel! What the hell do you want me to do?" Sodapop cried out.
"You better explain how the hell this happened! That's what you better do! How the hell is Sandy pregnant!" Darrel yelled.
"What?" I interrupted. Both of their heads shot over and Sodas face melted.
"She's pregnant?" I asked concerned. Neither of them answered me. Just starred.
"Sandy's pregnant?"
