It was the morning of the event, and Jungkook was filled with excitement. He was on his way to the venue, and when he arrived, people were already crowding the entrance. He was early, yet the crowd was even earlier. Some fans had likely stayed up all night just to be here.
Jungkook sighed, waiting inside his car. He had thought Jimin's exclusive passes would get him in closer, but it was just a gate pass and a free seat. He could see her, but he couldn't interact with her. Still, at least he would get to see her, and for now, that was enough.
Minutes passed, and the crowd began to move. Jungkook got out of his car with his camera in hand, ready to be just another fan for the day. He entered the large venue with the crowd, and soon, all the seats were filled. He expected to feel awkward as a man at a fan event, but he was surprised to see that about a quarter of the crowd was male. He shrugged the thought away.
Jimin's assigned seat was near the VIPs, and while Jungkook wasn't in that section, his seat was just behind them—a perfect spot with a great view.
Three hours passed, and the crowd was buzzing. The MC announced that the siblings were backstage, getting ready. Jungkook didn't pay much attention to the MC's chatter; he found it boring, but he participated when asked to hold up their magazines.
Everyone expected the siblings to appear on stage, but when a new wave of screams erupted from the back of the room, they freaked out. There, making their way from the entrance, were Lisa and her brother. The fans went wild, but they were well-behaved. The siblings had placed their trust in the fans, and the fans honored it, allowing them to walk through the crowd safely.
Their bright presence energized the entire place. They waved and greeted everyone they could see, even those in the farthest seats. Her aura was strong and fierce, yet with a charming, cutesy side. Jungkook watched her from a short distance. She had changed so much—so much more gorgeous, so much kinder. His eyes followed her until she reached the tables on the stage. His heart beat fast. He was so happy to see her again after so many years. The feeling of seeing her made him feel whole.
They conversed a bit with the fans, asking if they were okay and telling them to stay safe and warm in the winter weather.
"I wish you all to stay healthy, and don't spend your money on things like this, like our magazine, because it's not important," Taehyung said, making the crowd burst out laughing.
The fan sign and meet-and-greet started shortly after. Jungkook was there, carefully taking pictures of Lisa from a distance. He was happy he could capture the way her eyes sparkled with every interaction and how genuine her laugh was. Everything felt surreal. He couldn't talk to her, but at least he could take pictures as a keepsake.
He watched her with her fans—how cute and real she was with them. His heart swelled in the warmest way possible. He took a few pictures of Taehyung, too, the boy he used to call "Kimmy." He had been small and skinny as a child, and now he was a tall, broad young man—taller than Jungkook, even. Jungkook felt old.
As the event drew to a close, Jungkook decided to prepare to leave. He stood up, packed his camera, and for one last time, he glanced at Lisa. She was looking around the venue with a bright smile, posing and teasing her fans. Suddenly, her sparkling eyes met his. He froze.
Lisa smiled and waved at him. He flashed a sad smile back. Their eyes held for only a few seconds, but for Jungkook, it felt like an eternity. He took one last look at her and turned to leave.
He got inside his car and sighed. "Maybe she couldn't remember me," he thought. "Silly Jungkook, why would she?" He slapped his face. He replayed the moment in his head. Their eyes had met, and he had seen a flicker of confusion and familiarity in hers. He knew she wanted to observe him more, but he just chalked it up to a fan service. Still, a part of him couldn't stop thinking about her questionable stare.
"What are you doing to me, Lisa?" he whined. His thoughts were interrupted by a call from Jimin, who told him to wait in the parking lot so he could hitch a ride with him.
