Rescue Me | Chapter Five

"Good. I'm still working on your permanent nickname, but I wanted to call and say hi. So hi, what are you up to today?" Shannon asked.

"Oh, you know, just contemplating the Universe's biggest questions."

He chortled, "Have you figured any of them out yet?"

"Not even close, unfortunately." She laughed, what are you up to?"

"Currently, I'm chilling by the pool at Jared's, waiting on him to finish packing so we can get to the airport. He told me he ran into you last night. You kids have fun?"

"Yeah, it was going great until he got weird again. I can't figure him out, one minute we're two new friends, learning things about each other and the next he's this strange guy that can't get away from me fast enough. I just want to be his friend, Shannon. I can't do complicated."

"So you don't find him attractive?"

She paused for a second, his blunt question throwing her off, "Shannon, what is the purpose of this conversation? Are you spying for your brother?"

Shannon cleared his throat,"What? No, it was just a question. You don't have to answer, although basically just did."

Andrea sighed, "I'm not saying I don't find him attractive, I'm not blind. He's very handsome, he makes me laugh and he's super sweet. You both are. But that's not something that I'm pursuing right now. I just got here not that long ago, I need to focus on me and my dreams. Geez, that sounds incredibly selfish when I say it out loud."

"It isn't selfish at all, Andrea." Just as Shannon was about to continue speaking Jared opened the back door and yelled, "There you are! Let's get going, we're late!" Shannon smirked at his irritated tone, "Well, if you would have gotten your shit together sooner we wouldn't be!"

Jared responded by throwing his middle finger in the air, causing Shannon to laugh and return the gesture.

Andrea heard Jared yelling through the phone and giggled, "Someone's in a mood. Be safe Shan, enjoy your trip and the shows. Tell Jared hi for me please."

Shannon smiled, "You got it little Vampire, try to behave yourself while we're gone. I'll keep in touch. Bye" disconnecting the call. He rushed into the house to grab his bag and to find Jared, who was already outside with Emma and Shayla loading their bags into the truck.

Shannon threw his luggage into the back of the truck and hopped into the truck next to Jared.
"Andrea says hi." Jared's head snapped in Shannon's direction, "She called you?"

Shannon kept his head facing forward in an attempt to hide his smirk. "No, I called her. You should try it sometime. She sounds really sweet on the phone, by the way." He knew that comment would get under Jared's skin and could no longer hold back a smile and glanced over at his brother. Jared's icy blue eyes glared into him and most people would scurry in fear, but Shannon was completely unaffected.

From the front seat Emma sighed and Shayla laughed quietly.

"You're all fired." Jared snarked, settling back into his seat and putting earbuds in both ears.

"This is going to be an interesting trip it seems." Emma said, earning a nod from Shayla as she navigated through traffic.

They made their way through the airport, cleared security and were sitting around at the gate. Jared and Shannon were approached by a couple of fans who they found out after a few minutes of talking with them would be traveling on the same flight. The brothers smiled for photos and chatted with the girls until it was time to board the plane. Jared did his best to seem interested, but his heart wasn't in it.
