I'd never been canoeing. The girls seemed very surprised to hear it. That night when I came back to the lake, Megan, Kay, Jennifer, and I all bonded. I told them about how I met Mitchell, and they all screeched in excitement. I decided that if I had to spend all summer with these girls, I could at least try to make friends with them.
As soon as the camp counselors announced that we were going canoeing, all the girls cheered and screamed. I started chuckling, and Kay and Megan dragged me after Jennifer who already ran in the direction of the canoes. Jennifer had four life jackets in a pink canoe. "Pink?" Kay asked. We all looked at her. "What?" she asked. "How can you not love pink?" I asked her. Before we could get an answer we heard the counselors yelling for us to get a move on it. We all jumped into the canoe, and as soon as we pushed off shore, I was bombard with questions.
"How are things with you and Mitchell?"
"Have you kissed yet?"
"Of course they've kissed. Is he a good kisser?"
"When's the wedding date?"
"Can we be your bridesmaids?"
"Can our dresses be lilac? I look absolutely smashing in lilac?"
I began to laugh. "Calm down girls! We're not even together yet..." Suddenly, all the girls started screeching about how we weren't together. "I bet he'll ask you to be his girlfriend tonight during free time.", Kay told me. Jennifer then thought it was a good idea for her to stand up in the canoe, tipped it over, causing us to all fall in the water. That, was the moment, Mitchell decided to row by with his cabin mates.
After we finished canoeing, I rushed back to the cabin to get ready to go see Mitchell. I quickly dried and curled my hair, and went to look for the perfect outfit to wear. Plugging my iPod into the dock, I put it on shuffle. The song Little Bird By Ed Sheeran came on. I absolutely love that song and all English singers. Digging through my trunk, I found a pair of dark blue skinny jeans that had a few frays in them, a slouchy pink v-neck, and a pair of black hightop Converse. Grabbing my iPhone, I headed to the lake to meet Mitchell.
When I walked up to the lake, in the forest just beyond, there was a clearing. In the clearing was a picnic blanket with a picnic basket. Around the blanket, there were red and pink rose petals. Mitchell was standing right before the opening, hands in his pockets, looking down. He saw me and sheepishly smiled. He took my hand, and this time, I didn't pull away. We sat down, talking, and ate our meal.
Mitchell and I had just finished taking pictures on my phone, when we heard angry footsteps coming around the corner. Unexpectedly, Chase stomped around the corner and started screaming at Mitchell. "Really?!? You're here with her! Some stupid girl who you just met and know nothing about! It's almost like-" I cut him off. " What's your problem with me? What have I ever done to you?!" Chase got very quiet and looked confused. "It's not what you've done to me, it's what you remind me of and how wrong it is..." He trailed off. Mitchell looked just as confused as I did.
"What are you talking about?", Mitchell asked.
"I'm Gay.", was Chase's only reply.
