JAEDEN

"We need to talk" Mom said softly.

She gestured for me to sit and I reluctantly pulled out a chair and sat down beside her.

"What is it?" I queried.

"It's about Wyatt" she explained bluntly.

I scoffed.

"Now Jaeden, listen. There's things you don't know about that boy"

"And you do?" I quipped.

"Jaeden, honey, at least be civil" she pleaded.

"I'm trying, Mom! Look, Ma, I love you a lot, but I love Wyatt. Why is it so bad that I'm with him?"

She paused.

"Because he's dangerous, Jaeden. He's killed someone"

"He already told me, Mom" I said quietly. "And I don't think lowly of him for it, especially since it wasn't his fault. He's a really good guy, Mom. He would never hurt me"

"And what about the other day, huh? When Noah said you guys were attacked by some unfriendly people? Come on, Jaeden, I'm not stupid. There's only a few people in this town that would cause trouble like that and those old bully friends of Wyatt's are who!"

"Wait, wait, how do you know all this?" I questioned. "And why are you telling me now, huh? You were the one who introduced us in the first place! You suggested that we be friends, and now you won't let me be with him?"

She took a deep breath.

"Jenn told me" she answered. "We talked before she left and she told me about Wyatt. We thought he'd be better if he hung around you. She thought it'd be a good idea to have Wyatt hang around you for a positive influence but I didn't want this to happen, you saw his hand. Did he kill someone else this time?"

"Mom, for God's sake, Wyatt saved me! If it wasn't for Wyatt and Joe...I'd probably be dead, one of those guys had a knife!"

"Honey, stop. Wyatt is a bad kid, I don't want him hanging around you or touching you. I don't want you seeing him anymore" she ordered sternly yet calmly.

I could feel hot tears brim my eyes as I looked away. I wiped my eyes but the tears kept coming. She reached for me but I turned away.

"No!" I sobbed. "You can't make that choice for me!"

She frowned and I stood up and ran for the door.

"Jaeden!" Mom called, but I was already sprinting down the street towards Wyatt.

JACK

I glanced at Finn's watch and sighed.

"What's taking them so long?" I asked.

"Probably stopped for a fuck break" Finn smirked.

"Probably" I scoffed, and Finn chuckled.
