Chapter Five: Leather and Lace

"Maybe this was doomed from the start, but that doesn't stop my heart from skipping a beat every time I see you." -k.f.

-

My heels clicked against the floors of the high school as I made my way to the student lounge. I knew everyone would be in there and that's just what I wanted.

Sure enough, Betty, Veronica, Archie, Jughead, Kevin, and Maeve were all sitting around in the lounge, drinking their morning coffees.

"Good morning all." I smile as if nothing is different and turn to make myself a cup of coffee.

They all start to say good morning back but fall silent and I smirk to myself.

"Oh, my God." I hear Kevin say and I grin as I turn around.

"What? Is there something on my face?" I ask as they all stare at me.

"Cheri, what in God's name are you wearing?" Archie scoffs as he continues to stare at me.

"Well that's quite the loaded question, isn't it Archiekins?" I feign innocence as I walk over to the center where they all were sat on the couches.

He just rolls his eyes at me as Betty speaks up.

"Your jacket, Cheri. Why are you wearing that?" She asks me and I look down at it.

"Oh, this! Yeah, Quite the twist isn't it? Blossom girl gets sent to conversion camp, comes back to find out her brothers dead, gets accused of the murder of him, abused by her parents, and then runs away to join the gang on the wrong side of town. Makes for the perfect story, no?" I smile slyly.

"No." Jughead scoffs and I sigh, crossing my arms over my chest.

"It makes for a story with a tragic ending, Cheri. Being a serpent is dangerous. And downright stupid." He shakes his head and walks out.

"I'll go talk to him," Betty says and gets up to go after him.

Archie continues to glare at me and I look back at him.

"Stop staring, Archiekins. It might be the last thing you do." I purse my lips and tilt my head.

He scoffs before grabbing his bag and leaving.

"This is riveting, I cannot breathe," Kevin says and I laugh, sitting between him and Maeve.

"Cheri, how in the hell did you become a serpent?" She asks me in a hushed tone and I furrow my eyebrows.

"I danced, I recited the rules, I retrieved the knife. Simple." I shrug.

"Did you get a tattoo?" She looks me over and I nod.

"Yeah. Why?" I ask and pull down on the shoulder of my shirt so she could see the serpent tattoo on my shoulder.

She sighs before standing and lifting up the ends of her shirt so I could see her identical one on her hip bone.
