Chapter Three: The Renegade Heart

"Real love doesn't meet you at your best. It meets you in your mess." -J.S. Park

(momentarily in the third person)

"What's going on?" Cheri asked, her green eyes wide and filled with fear as her mom and dad dragged her down the grand stairs of Thornhill.

They had pulled her from her bed in the middle of the night without saying a word.

She was dressed in her signature Blossom red nightgown and felt chill bumps rise on the surface of her skin as she walked through the cold house.

They reach the bottom of the stairs and Cheri sees a group of men dressed in all white standing at the front door.

"No." She spoke quietly as she realized what was happening.

She tried and thrashed hard against her parents' tight grip on her arms.

"No! Stop!" She yells as they tighten their hold on her and lead her outside, the men in white following close behind.

The rain fell heavy down Cheri's hair and onto her face as they dragged her to a white van.

"Somebody help me!" She yells as tears fall down her porcelain cheeks.

"We are helping you, darling." Her mom says and Cheri shakes her head in disbelief as she is put in the back of the van and the door slams shut in her face.

After what seems like hours, the van stops outside a huge building.

'The Sisters of Quiet Mercy'

Before she can process what's happening, Cheri is pulled from the back of the van and forcibly lead into the tall, ominous building.

She's taken to a room, stripped of her nightgown, and changed into a pale blue dress and a red sweater before being shoved onto the bed and tied down.

"Don't worry my child, we're here to cure you." A nun says before sticking a needle in Cheri's arm.

"No, stop!" She yells and screams.

(back to the first person point of view)

I sit up suddenly and gasp, beads of sweat running down my face.

I look around and remember I'm at Maeve's house.

I also then remember what all had taken place, what seemed like, moments ago.

One moment, I'm about to kiss FP Jones, a man I never expected myself falling for.

The next, they're pulling Jason's body out of sweet water river and I'm losing consciousness.
