Chapter Sixteen: Lost Stars

"Plastered on your visage, the happiest smile I've seen. Burned into my mind your image, and me as your queen." -Ambria Clark

-

By the time FP had gotten home last night, he was drunk and Jughead had come home with him, so I would just have to sing for him another time. I was glad him and Jughead were finally spending time together.

Maeve was telling me about how they'd all gone back to Archie's house to listen to him, Fred, and FP play together.

I was going to make a snide remark about Archie's playing when Jughead started walking down the hall, the sheriff behind him.

"Jug," She looks at him with wide eyes.

"Call my dad." Is all he says to her and she nods.

"Let's go, I'll call him on the way to the station." I say and take her hand, leading her outside.

-

We get to the police station and I get called into questioning while Maeve goes to see Jughead.

"Cheri, first of all, just tell me straight up, do you think Jughead killed your brother?" He asks me when we sit down in an interrogation room.

"No, not in the slightest." I shake my head.

"Jughead is a little rough around the edges, sure. He's sarcastic and can be rude at times, but he also has one of the biggest hearts I've ever seen. And yes, he took a special interest in my brother's death, but he mainly did it for me. I've been friends with him since he was born and he knew how much I loved Jason. So he wanted to help me get closure. I wasn't happy about the story, but if I told him if it helped him find who did it, I would be happy to let him write it. But Jughead wouldn't hurt a fly. He definitely couldn't kill someone." I sigh.

"Well we have reason to believe otherwise." He sighs.

"No, you don't. You have evidence on him from the past which tells you absolutely nothing about now. Just because he 'tried to burn down the elementary school', which is crap by the way, doesn't mean he's a killer. Your 'evidence' is purely circumstantial and it's not even that." I cross my arms over my chest.

"I think you and Jughead have been spending too much time together." The sheriff says with a soft laugh.

"Now that, you are right about." I shake my head and laugh softly.

After I was released, I waited in the hallway with Archie and Mr. Andrews. FP still wasn't here yet.

"Jughead's not helping himself in there. I asked him for an alibi and he just gave me lip." Sheriff Keller says to them, sighing.

"He was working for me. Yeah, the week of July 11th, was it? Yeah, I had him tear down some drywall for me." Fred says with no hesitation.

"You can provide me with documentation to support that?" Keller asks.
