Chapter Seven: The Choice

"Maybe some people are just doomed to feel heartbroken all the time because they love too much, and everyone else loves too little." -Unknown

"Are you serious? Archie and Grundy?" I whisper to Mae as we stand at her locker.

"I know right? It's crazy! But apparently, Betty is doing an interview on her in the Blue and Gold." She smirks.

"I just wish she'd go ahead and expose Archie while she's at it, but she never will. She's way too in love with him for that." I sigh and twirl my hair.

"Who got you the red Serpent jacket?" Maeve asks with a knowing grin.

"Oh, uh, FP had it made for me." I smile lightly and play with the ends of it.

"Oh, how sweet." She says, borderline sarcastic.

"Yeah, yeah, but I got loverboy to make a move, so now it's your turn with Jughead. At the drive-in." I grin.

"I don't know, C. I don't think-" She's cut off when Jughead walks up to us, calling her name.

"I was wondering if you wanted to watch the drive-in movie with me in the reel room? Best seats in the house." He smiles nervously.

Maeve looks at him with her mouth open, trying to speak.

I look back and forth between them for a minute before stepping in.

"Of course, she would love to, Juggie. Isn't that right Mae?" I smile at him before turning back to her.

She nods her head rapidly, finally gaining the courage to speak.

"Oh, yeah. Totally." She nods.

"Cool. I'll see you then." He smiles again before walking off with Archie.

"That was painful to watch." I look at her.

"Shut up." She grumbles and I laugh as we make our way to class.

-

"It's this quintessential rite of passage, making out with your boy or girlfriend at the movies." Kevin sighs dramatically before plopping down on one of the armchairs in the student lounge.

I laugh and shake my head before sipping on my coffee.

"Why don't we go together? I can't promise you any action, but maybe I'll bring you good luck." Veronica smiles at him and he considers it for a moment.

"Oh, count me in too." I laugh.

"Maeve is gonna be with Jughead and I am not third-wheeling that."

"Great. Another night, another hag." Kevin says and I roll my eyes jokingly before we all start laughing.

"Speaking of hags..." Cheryl says as she walks in and up to Veronica.
