My Not So Perfect Mate (boyxboy)

Chapter 2

As I reached the door to my father's office, I could hear him talking to someone on the phone. I waited outside for him to finish the call. When I heard him saying his goodbyes and finally ending the call, I knocked at his door even though I am a cent percent sure that he already knows of my presence.

"Come in Xavy", he called and I finally made my way inside his office.
"You look quite elated, what's the occasion?", I teased him to which his only response was a smile directed towards me.

" I was talking to Harvey, he said they are going to reach Blood Moon in half an hour. He also mentioned that Selena is very excited to meet you after such a long time" he said ending his statement with a raised brow and his patent smirk. The mere mention was of Selena was enough to make my cheeks a little red and my father smirk transformed into a full belly laugh making my cheeks even more red.

"Dad...stop it." I wined. " What? Your childhood crush on Selena has always been very endearing to us. You know there are chances that she could be your mate." My father said with amusement dripping from every word coming out of his mouth.

But both of us knew that though I always had a little (maybe not so little) crush on Selena, my father was the one who would love nothing more than his childhood friend to become part of the family in case me and Selena do turn out to be mates. Well we are surely going find that out today.

"Even though she is a year older than you, she is yet to find her mate so there is a chance that her mate may be younger than her. Right?" Before he could continue, my mom came barging in and started talking a mile a minute.

"Everything has been done. Food, beverages, decorations, everything is in order. The only thing remaining is for us to get ready. Come on chop chop." She said and immediately started walking towards dad, most probably to drag him to get dressed.

" Darling, relax and first answer this question of mine. Do you think our son is going to forget about us after he finds his mate?" My dad continued to tease me and my mother being one to never miss a chance to embarrass her only son took the bait immediately.

"Oh, I don't know honey. Maybe after a month or two he may come out of the love haze and remember his birth givers...or maybe not", my mom took her own jibe at me and both my dear parents had a full minute of delightful laugh at the expense of their poor son.

"Aren't we getting late now? If both of you are done making fun of me, can I get a move on and start getting ready?" I said sounding as embarrassed as I was feeling. This only made them laugh harder.

" Sure, Xavy after all you the star of the night. And I heard someone special is on their way to attend your party so go on and get ready." my mom said smiling at me fondly. " And all jokes aside, today is really special Xavy, for you as you are going to finally ascend your rightful position as alpha and may even find your mate and also for all of us as we are going to finally get a new and improved alpha...the old one was getting kinda rusty" my mother said not trying hard not to laugh but failing to maintain the serious persona for long.

And now it was my mother and me laughing at dad who could do nothing but just playfully glare at us.

We were finally about to leave dad's office when my father suddenly stopped me. " Oh I completely forgot that the reason why I called you here is to give you this", he said handing me a package. "What is this?" I asked obviously quite curious.

" It was left at my office door when I got in. It's obviously for you as it has your name on it but it doesn't mention the name of the person who sent it for you. May be it was delivered at the pack house and someone left it here. I don't know. It's obviously a birthday present, open it and have a look" my dad explained nonchalantly not even a bit concerned that there may be a bomb or something inside. Well dometimes I am just too suspicious for me own good, I just can't help it.

" I will open it later. For now let's go and get ready. The guests are going to start arriving soon." I said and left dad's office.

I was on the way to my room when I ran into Phillip, his mood seemed to have drastically improved from the last time I saw him and almost murdered him as he was smiling widely and there was a glint in his eyes that didn't bode well with me.

" Hey Xav, I really wanted to apologize for the way I behaved earlier. You know I was just sad to see Sam go and that too for a whole year." He said sounding quite genuine but there was still something that seemed out of place.

But being the alpha, it was not good for me to hold grudges against my pack members for long specially someone who is going to be my gamma so I decided to resolve the matter as an alpha should by being the bigger person.

" It's ok Phil, I understand. I already forgot about it so it's all good but next time do mind your words", I said reestablishing peace between the two of us and at the same time adding the subtle warning.

"Thanks Xav, so who is this present from?" He asked trying to make small talk.

"Oh, I don't know someone left it in front of my dad's office. I will open it later, but now I need to go and get ready and so do you." I said already starting to walk past him towards my room.

" Xav", Phillip called my name making me turn to look at him. I raised my brow prompting him to continue.

" Sammy told me to wish you a very happy birthday" he said and literally made a beeline for the staircase leading to the floor below, which is where his room is located.

I don't know why but suddenly I felt something stir deep inside me hearing Samuel's name and what shocked me most was that his name failed to bring forward the bout of anger and irritation which normally accompanies the mere mention of the devil's name.

I shrugged it off and rushed towards my room as I was left with very less time to get myself ready and presentable for my own birthday party and coronation.

I left the gift package on my bed and went inside my ensuite to take a quick shower. I came out with one towel around my waist and using another one to dry my hair.

My eyes immediately fell on the package lying on my bed and you can say that my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to spare a few minutes to open the package and take a peak of what was inside.

Maybe there is a card inside with the name of the person who took the effort to send me a present when they themselves could not be here.

I starting tearing the wrapping paper and derived a beautiful looking blue box. Now my curiosity was though the roof. I lifted the lid and my eyes widened and a gasp left my mouth.

Hey guys I know it took me a long time to publish the second chapter but I had some very important things going on with my life and I promise to do better now. Next chapters will be updated as soon as possible.

So enjoy and remember to keep smiling and telling yourself how special you are and always remain positive. As this was what got me through the previous year.
