(My mom yelled at me because I was verbally freaking out while writing this smh I'm in tears)
You draw your sword, putting it to Maven's neck. He didn't even have time to wipe the sleep out of his eyes. He freezes, the curtains in his room breathing against the wind as sunlight peeks through just to make you shine. His gaze switches from the long blade to your Haven eyes as he tries to put together a solution.
"I was sent by the Scarlet Guard to kill you," your smooth lips inform. You bat your eyelashes to the beat of his ascending heartrate. "How does that make you feel?"
"I could ask the same to you," his words are quick and sharp. He can jab faster than any blade. He tries to move closer to you but you press the sword further, his skin dripping with a silver ooze. He does not flinch. He does show fear. He just smirks.
"You came into my castle to be my bride. You knew the risks and still, you complain? Your lips," he tilts his head down to reveal his deepest desire, "I still remember how they taste."
"I can kill you." You hiss.
Kill him quickly; before he can talk you out of it. Farley's words echo in your head.
"Can you?"
Silence, so he presses on.
"Why haven't you? You've made it this far. You can just disappear," he eyes the window, "and kill me now. Instead, you chose a simple chat."
"You are failing on strategy; I don't miss you." You squint your sparkling eyes. He stares at your lips.
He knows he's going to die. Petty bastard.
"I never said you did."
"You're the one who missed me, right?"
He shutters under your words. He's scared. Without his bracelet, he's defenseless. He can't work his way out of this one.
"I've always enjoyed your company." Maven replies. He inches back, you follow.
"Same," the words fall hopelessly past your lips. You blink for a second, faltering. You remember the laughs you two shared, the performances and dances. "But happy things can't last." You add, holding the sword tightly in pride as you stiff. The conversation grows softer and softer as Maven comes closer to his demise.
"No... they don't." He looks at the floor with melancholy. You know Maven like the back of your hands. You know that the tears running down his cheeks aren't fake, and neither are yours.
"I love you," you admit. There's silence for a second before he inhales.
"I loved you, too," his following movements were violent, the opposite of his usual demeanor. He tried to grab your sword out of your fingers, but you were quicker than him.
He closed his eyes, his hands landing on yours as he went in for the last blow.
You were surprised by how cold he was.
Silver blood stained your fingers, the warm liquid dripping onto the floor.
You couldn't find it in you to pull the blade from his chest, so you just stayed frozen in that position; his fingers on yours as his soul leaves his broken body. Everything was so real. You wished you could disappear and never have the ability to return.
"I'm sorry," the words feel surreal as they leave your lips. You almost wish he was alive just to hear it.
But this is for the best. You assure yourself.
Rise, red as dawn. But suddenly, as you draw yourself farther and farther from Maven's body, it suddenly doesn't feel like the right cause.
