(I've been working on writing a fic for each quote in the uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh trailer yeah
This quote is said by Iris: "I will not be controlled by people living on borrowed time and stolen thrones. Let them face the flood."
Two paragraphs in: This is so weird to write tbh I'm like "what do I do now without lyrics to do a scenery switch?????"
I wrote this while listening to WildSpartanz so this might be weirdly written)
You were a servant, redblooded to the grave. You grew to stay quiet as you worked on princesses like Mare and Evangeline. You grew to become nobody, as people who are noticed don't go back to their dorms. That's how you lived your life since the beginning. You were barely a teenager before you got pulled into the world of the silverbloods. And definitely, as you realize you are nearing the age of 19, you have gotten to know some of the silvers even when it is clear they don't know who you are.
Without realizing, the silverbloods soon began to recognize your face in the halls. This first started with Maven, and as he got older, he started realizing that he grew with you. You stayed silent, never realizing that you were soon his main interest besides Mare. He made up remains of your personality in his head. He imagined you as shy, quiet when you spoke. And soon enough, he started comparing you to Mare. He made your personality everything Mare wasn't.
You remember all of the Scarlet Guard's attacks and even attacks that weren't all theirs. It all started with the explosions in the ballrooms, where Ptolemus first died. You remembered gazing upon his dead body before scurrying out of the way. The soonest, one of highhouse betrayal, lingered around Havens and Irals. It left King, now, Maven with a bullet in his throat. You were not present during the attacks, but you heard so much about it. It provoked thoughts. Thoughts that were the same as a bullet, shooting out and getting lodged in your head. You thought about Maven, and how weak he appears to be as king. You think about what your life would benefit as to go against him. But he is your king, and you look up to him dearly because of his title.
Yet, you look back on your life and think about all of the things you missed out on. You haven't felt the breeze of fresh autumn air ever since you were a child. Do you miss it? Would you rather have that than the breath of tension around King Maven? But what could you, a simple red, do? Join the Scarlet Guard, an inner voice sends goosebumps down your skin.
You walk the halls, keeping to yourself as you maintain your duties. Walking the opposite way as you is Mare, Arvens around her body and shackles around her wrists. You know better not to look at her. But you do. You make eye contact, and Maven notices. He stares at you until he fully passes. His cape tries to fight against him, tries to get him to talk to you. In his eyes, it seems like the right thing. He doesn't know how to feel. The red, so quiet and timid, made eye contact with Mare. He wanted to talk to you for the first time, but he couldn't. He pulled his cape towards him more, and it continued to drag along behind him.
That night, as you lie in your bed, you think about the endless possibilities your life could end with. Either you join the Scarlet Guard, and help people like you live their lives, or you live up to Maven's standards and continue to unknowingly be by his side forever. As you pull your blanket closer to you, you think about all the new things you could experience.
As you sleep, your mind begins to think about what it would be like to betray Maven. You thought about something you didn't consider before. The experiences you could live through if you did stay. You dreamed of something you always wanted to feel, his lips. You dreamt of how his mouth curls up at the corners. You dreamt of how captivating his body language is when he speaks. His eyes, his lips, his jawline. You dreamt about it all. And you enjoyed it.
When you awoke, you realized how complicated the decision truly was. But over the days, as you thought and thought, you finally came up with an answer. You will let the silverbloods come to you, and then, you will destroy their world.
Maven was your favorite, and honestly, you tried to remain innocent. You didn't want to think about him in the lustful way you did in your dreams. You think of him as a ruler, and that's how it should be. You make eye contact with Maven more than before. You smile at him in the halls, and he notices greatly. It plays with his mind, makes his heart race. He wants to slam his heart against a wall and watch it explode between his fingers but he remains sane and calm.
In your dorm, you start to dress in the afternoon. You put a sharp blade dressed with diamond ridges under the back of your shirt, hiding it in the band of your pants. You begin to walk out with broad shoulders. You head to Mare's room, a plate of organized snacks in your hand. The Arvens look you upside down, and you give a shy smile. Maven is nowhere in sight. They open the door. There isn't anybody in the room. Why isn't there anybody in the room? You look at Mare, helpless. Her shackles are of silent stone, something you can't cut with a normal blade. But this one, the diamond edges, can cut through almost anything. You put down the plate, looking at Mare. You take the blade from your pants, seeing her eyes light up.
"Rise red of dawn," you whisper to her as you start to cut her free. Her brown eyes show hope and rebellion. But as she looks at your face again, she starts to remember you. She saw you when she started working in the palace, she saw you when she was a princess, she saw you in the hallways only days before.
"Why?" She asked. You cut the chain with a clink. You look at her with a smile.
"I will not be controlled by people living on borrowed time and stolen thrones. Let them face the flood." You whisper with a wink. Mare stands up, and so do you. And then, for the first time in your life, you start to rebel. You run against all of the rules as a servant, decorating your blade in silver blood. The Arvens are nothing compared to you because you have no powers, you surprise them, slitting their throats perfectly. Mare's lightning reflects all of the lights and cameras, giving her more energy she thirsted for.
And Maven, watching from across the halls, feels his heart in his chest. Does he use his fire? His fingers flicker against his bracelet as he thinks about what he should do. You, the gentle and sweet girl, are rebelling against him. Don't you know his place? Don't you know your place? Why aren't you listening to him? His hands begin to tremble. He closes his eyes, his shoulders relaxing. No, he won't stop you now. He will have to wait until the war starts.
