"You don't need to pull my hair out of my face to make me look professional."

"It sure makes you look pretty," Elane says under her breath as she pulls your hair back. "It's just a pin, General Iral."

"Oh, don't call me that," you wave your hand, "'Your Majesty' fits better."

"I will not!"

You look at your reflection, tight-fit clothing was never your favorite. But you will admit makes you look good. Fits the role you are destined for. Elane nods.

"You know, he's sitting outside. Guards on his side. Perhaps it is funny to me but who is to say, right?"

"I bet his legs are crossed."

He's here, you've been hearing all day. He is here. He promised. The day you get promoted to the general is the same day he'll see you again. It was a promise as much as it was a threat. It was everything you wanted.

"I do not sit with my legs crossed."

Elane shuffles as she sees him. Maven nods to her and nods to you. You can't help but smile, refusing to look him in the eyes.

Elane curtsy's, "Your majesty."

You can feel Maven's eyes on you as you stand your ground. You do not curtsy. You do not bow. He accepts nothing more from you.

"General," he drops his head in acknowledgment. Elane smirks and starts to the door, shaking her head. Disgusting, she used to say. Maven Calore? Maven Calore. She holds up a five to you as she leaves. Five minutes. Not enough time. You smirk to yourself. He lasts at least 15.

"I promised we'd be together," he grabs your hand with both of his, "And I promise to return outside again soon."

"Another promise? Truly you are a man of your word." You say. He smiles and kisses your fingers. You can see a certain pain in his eyes when he looks at you. He's king now, isn't he? He is still searching for her, isn't he? Did he get a coronation?

"Can I make one more promise?"

"Only if you keep it."

He purses his lips together before kissing your fingers once again.

"I promise that I loved you."

Your heartbeat plays on repeat in your ears, speeding up as you suddenly blink fast. You avoid his gaze and squeeze his fingers. Liar. Liar. If he loved you he wouldn't have left. He wouldn't have fallen in love with a disgraceful, ugly, bitch of a red. He wouldn't have replaced you. You take a deep breathe and stiff up.

"I loved you as well."

Maven pulls away from your touch. "I'll go now."

"Wait!" You exclaim without thinking. Maven's face flushes white for a second as he looks down, gazing down at your hands which grab his. You look down as well. Something is different. You let go of him and look at your hand. There's a ring placed on your finger. You stare down in awe. It's silver, shiny. You look up, but he's already gone.

Your lip begins to shake. You calm yourself down before Elane steps in, noticing your distress. But she stops in her tracks.

"Did he give you a ring?"

"How did you notice?"

"(Y/N), it's glowing more than I do." She grabs your hands gently, not firm like Maven's touch was. She looks down at it, her expression blank. What is she thinking?

Her eyes flicker up again. "Do you love him again?"

Your answer is quick. Thought out. After seeing him again, feeling his touch, him showing his love.

"I don't think so."
