Baby, I think I'm crazy over you

Your maid used to put your hair in pigtails when you were a child. They were together with pink hair ties, that you distasted. But you liked the way they moved when you shook your head. You never took them out until sleep, and at that point, the hair would hang in the same positions and look like antennas. You only stopped when Maven Calore would rip the ties out and pull your hair.

He would ask why you didn't wear your hair down like Evangeline. He would say you would never be a queen with hair like that. And you cried, wiping your tears on the inside of your collar.

You never wore pigtails ever again.

Give the stars and the moon and I know that you would too

As a teenager Maven gave you a ring. He told you he had found it. He just slides it on your finger and kissed you on the cheek. You blushed a deep silver color and kissed him on the lips, to which he held you by the hips and told you he loved you. You were so happy and you couldn't name why. You were just a child by then. But you never stopped thinking about Maven Calore.

Even in your moments of despising him, you would twist the ring around your finger.

My eyes begin to widen when you walk in the room

In front of his brother, moments before you were sent away to participate in the Queenstrial, Maven wouldn't even look at you. He would just walk next to his brother, blinking as Evangeline walked past him. What did he think about her?

Your heart began to beat.

Did Maven like anybody? Did he have... thoughts?

You shake your head and turn away. You're not insecure, are you?

Maven told you he loved you all those years ago. He wouldn't lie. Maven isn't a liar.

My face lights up and it's apparent that I'm falling for you

In the arena, you lift your hands as all the flower seeds you hold in your pockets begin to grow out, the leaves wider than your body. You look up, amazed at your creation. It is beautiful to you. You love plants. You love the things that come with them. You also love making them into weapons. Something so delicate.

By your command, the plants wrap around the mannequin and squish it, the head hanging off. You smile, bowing slowly and keeping your eyes on the floor, showing that you can do the same without even paying attention.

You forgot if you could even hear the clapping or not. You just remember crossing your ankles, kissing the ring on your finger and looking up at Maven Calore.

Tangled in a nest deep down in your heart

I'm breathing through your lungs, don't want to spend this time apart

You put your pencil down, looking up at Julian. He is observing you. His old, wise gaze is somehow soothing your worries. You almost miss Maven. You wonder what he's doing right now. Who he's thinking about.

"And did you know he was going to pick you?" He asks.

You purse your lips together. It's the only answer you'll give him. He nods, understanding.

You quickly change your mind and open your mouth, "I didn't have the heart to think about him choosing someone else. By the process of elimination, you know."

"What would you do if he chose someone else?"

You blink.

"I can't even think about it."

"So that means it won't happen?"

You look up at him, staring him in the eyes. His form seems to weaken under your hard gaze. You try to remain emotionless. You try to have dead eyes. But you know you feel. You feel a lot. You feel a burning love for Maven.

"I'd kill her."

Baby, I know I'm crazy over you

I'd give you the world and you're the only one I'd give it to

In the ballroom at night, a scarce amount of silvers still awake. Ones only there for the wine and not the good time. But you stand on the floor, fingers wrapped in gloves and a smile wrapped around your face. You giggle, looking at Maven. He smiles back, but only for a second.

He stops smiling once you reach your hand to him. He shakes his head, awkwardly glancing around. You don't let it down until he walks up to you, putting his hand in yours.

You quickly pull him into you.

"Oh look, we are dancing now."

He grins down at you, shaking his head.

"How dare you." He pulls you into his chest, holding you close as he sways.

"I dare like this," you grab his collar and kiss him in front of his mother.

I won't break my promise and I'm aware that neither will you

Pinky promised on forever and forever is what I shall do

Maven holds your hand as you drag him out in front of the crowd. You hide your grimace, wanting to poke holes in all of the flashing lights.

"Be magnificent." He whispers to you.

You never forgot that. Be magnificent. Are you not already?

Once you hit the eyes of the people, he lets go of this hand. Being professional, isn't it? Could it be something else? You're not insecure.

You're just scared.

Isn't that magnificent.

Tangled in a nest deep down in your heart

Maven lays in his bed, you laying in his arms. His arms are wrapped around your shoulders and you rest your head on his chest. You feel his breath. You place your fingers on his diaphragm, drawing circles on his warm skin. You can see his ribs piercing his pale flesh.

And you feel like time should just stop. Everything is happy now. You don't want things to be taken away.

You lift your head, kissing his jaw gently. He opens his eyes, looking down at you through his long lashes.

I'm breathing through your lungs, don't want to spend this time apart

He lazily puts his hand on your hair, turning his head away from you. "I'm a liar."

Your heart skips a beat. You don't say anything, just look up at him with big eyes.

Maven grabs a fist full of your hair, holding it tightly.

"I always thought you were cute in pigtails."
