Chapter 10

Kae

Chris and I both just found a nanny for Kenneth since we're both busy.

"Would you be fine if we did a background check?" I asked her.

Ever since Stacy, my guard is always up.

"Sure." Theresa, the nanny, said.

Stacy

"And as I was carrying his child, Chris and I fell in love. He wanted us to be a family." I told the lawyer.

"Surely the law must let the baby be with his biological parents" I said.

"Wasn't it her egg?" Mr. Dudley asked.

"Yeah b-"

"But nothing. There's nothing you can do. The mother has all the rights in this situation." he said.

"I'm his mother!" I yelled.

"Not biologically."

"This isn't fair! I carried him for nine months."

"Your contract states that you relinquish any rights to the child." Mr. Dudley told me.

"People break contracts all the time."

"Surrogacy is different. It's not even legal in every state."

"Please.. there must be something you can do?" I said.

"Does the father want to be with you?" he asked and I nodded.

"Then the best option is to have him file for divorce."

"I love watching him sleep." I said referring to Kenneth.

"We have forever to watch him.. only a couple of hours to sleep." Chris said in my ear.

The house phone rang, making Ken stir in his sleep.

"Hi Chris, it's Jessie." the voicemail said.

I cringed. Jessie is the girl Chris cheated on me with.

"I told you to never call me again." Cris said answering the phone and putting it on speaker.

"I'm sorry but it's about your baby." Jessie said.

"What is it?" Chris asked.

"I need to show you something."

"Whatever it is you can tell me over the phone." he said.

"You have to trust me Chris, it's something you really have to see. It's about Anastasia Parker." Jessie said.

I shook my head. Between the both of them, I can't even.

"How do you know Stacy?" Chris asked.

"Just come over." Jessie said.

"No." Chris said as I paced back and forth.

"Please trust me. Just come over." Jessie said and I walked to our bedroom.

"That is the first time I've talked to Jessica since I ended things with her. You have to trust me." Chris said.

"When I heard her voice, it reminded me of everything I've ever been through with you." I said through my tears.

"I know and I'm so sorry." Chris sighed.

"How the hell does your ex mistress know our surrogate?" I asked.

"I don't know but we gotta find out." Chris said.

"Am I supposed to be cool with it? What if she's lying and seduces you into a trap?" I asked.

"I don't know. I seriously doubt that's the case."

"Well I don't know if I'm comfortable with that." I said walking to a guest room to sleep in there.
