Subaru had just finished playing a wicked guitar solo in front of a huge crowd. The audience loved him, they were cheering his name. "Subaru! Subaru!"
~~~~~
"Subaru ... Subaru ... Subaru ... Subaru!" Subaru woke up as his cousin gently shook him awake. "Oh good you're awake,"
"Aine," he said sleepily. At least he thought it was Aine. It was either Aine or a giant peach. "What do you want?"
"Adventure!"
"It's too early for adventure," Subaru pulled the covers over his head, Aine pulled them back down.
"We have to go now if you want to see the whales," she said
"What whales?"
"Just come on!"
Aine whined and shook Subaru until he finally got out of bed, then the two proceeded to do the same to Kanata, then Suzune, then Momone, Kazune, then Mirai. "Can we bring Yoshi?" Momone asked
"No, he needs his sleep," said Suzune
"Has anyone seen my phone?" Mirai asked "I hope I didn't leave it back at the house. Or worse, the airport,"
"You had it with you when we got here," said Kazune "Just look around some more,"
After searching for ten minutes for her phone, Mirai finally found it under a suitcase. Then the seven of them started to leave the hotel. They walked down the fancy hallways to the open air lobby where they saw none other then Maori sitting in a chair with her legs in the air.
"Maori!" said Aine "Good morning!"
"Good morning," Maori replied, distracted by a pretty butterfly that had flown in through one of the archways.
"What are you doing here, I thought you lived in the village?"
"I stayed over night with Mommy," Maori answered, still focusing on the insect in front of her. "My Grandmas are picking me up and bringing me home today,"
"Oh, I see," said Aine, sad her new friend was leaving so soon
"Want to see the whales with us?" Momone asked "They're really cool!"
"Sure," Maori shrugged, the bug had flown away anyway.
~~~~~
The group had walked through the flowery lane where they had met Maori and to the beach, the morning sun beaming on the waters making them look like diamonds. "So pretty!" Mirai cried as she took out her phone to take pictures.
"They're just like jewels," said Suzune
"But will whales really come this close to shore?" Kanata asked
"They're usually really far away," said Kazune "But they're not impossible to see,"
"Everyone! Quick!" said Mirai "I want a picture of everyone together by the water!"
"I'll take the picture for you," said Suzune
"Thank you," Mirai said with a smile as she handed her phone to her future-sister-in-law. "Everyone group together! Come on, come on!" After positioning everyone, Mirai finally gave Suzune the okay to take the picture.
"Say oranges!" she said
"Oranges!" Everyone said in unison. But after a snap from the camera, Suzune let out a loud 'WHOA!' And everyone turned to see where she was looking just in time to see a whale breach into the waters.
"Whale!" Momone cried
"Shh!" said Aine "Too loud,"
"Oops. Whale."
"Better," said Subaru "Here comes another one!" In the horizon, everyone could see a whale jump out of water and then back in.
"They're such beautiful creatures," said Maori, everyone nodded in agreement.
"So ... wasn't this worth waking up so early for?" Aine asked her cousins
"Well, maybe," Subaru said with a grin
"Kanata, do you want to build a sandcastle with me?" Momone asked as she started collecting handfuls of sand.
"Uh ... no thank you,"
"Oh you should," said Subaru "You make sandcastles with Ako," Kanata and Ako had worked years on the perfect sand castle, last summer, they accomplished their goal by building it on top of Aria Nijino.
"No thanks," Kanata said again
"I'll build with you," said Aine
"Me too," said Maori "I know how to make one out of a coconut,"
"A coconut?" Kazune repeated
"Yeah? Don't believe me?" Without waiting for him to say more, Maori ran into the jungle then came back, bashing two halves of a coconut together making a horse gallop noise. She handed one half to Aine then started scooping up sand with the other then filling it with some water. She pattered the sides of the coconut a few times then quickly flipped it over onto a smooth patch of sand. She patted again and when she removed the coconut, a rough dome of sad was in it's place. "Tada!" Maori exclaimed
"Squee! Teach me! Teach me!" said Momone
"Okay!"
Maori, Momone, Aine, Suzune, and Subaru started making sand domes (after Maori got another coconut of course) and soon the beach looked like a giant roll of bubble wrap. "Can we pop it?" Subaru asked
"Sure!" said Aine
Then they spent the rest of the morning stomping out all the domes from the beach. Momone did get some sand in her eye though, Suzune carried her on her back back to the hotel as Momone fought back tears. "You should cry," said Maori "Maybe the tears will wash out some of the sand,"
Kanata shrugged "It's worth a shot,"
Momone then allowed herself to cry and she thought she did feel the sand come out of her eyes, but it was hard to tell. "Let's get some breakfast," said Kazune "I am starving,"
"Same," Suzune agreed
"And I better find my mommy," said Maori "She'll be wondering where I am and my grandmas will be wondering where I am,"
"Right, right," Aine said, nodding "Say, could we come with you, to your house I mean?"
"Eh?"
"Please! We just met and I don't want you to go yet," Aine turned to Subaru and Kanata "Can they come too? They're really nice,"
"Um ... I don't know, I'll ask," said Maori "But I don't think my mommy will have a problem with it and when Mom doesn't have a problem with it then my grandmas are okay with it," The more Maori thought about the idea, the more she liked it. "Come on! Let's find mom and then ask her!"
"Wait, what about our parents?" Subaru asked
