Yume's Second Phone Call

When Karen arrived the next day, acting happy and normal (even a little excited), the Yuki kids could start to feel better about everything. However, it did feel, in a way, like it was inappropriate for some reason.

"I hope you all had a great time!" said Karen

"We did. We did," said Mirai "So how have you been,"

"Mirai, you and I both know I spent the whole time thinking about you and your wedding! Oh! Trust me honey, you are going to have a ball!"

"I never doubted it,"

While they talked, the younger members of the family were at the beach. Yoshi kept chasing the waves then running away. Chasing, running, chasing, running, etc. Momone was building sandcastles by herself with two halves of a coconut. Subaru, Kanata, and Aine just say on the side and watched.

"Do you feel like doing anything?" Subaru asked

"No," said Kanata

"Not really," Aine added

"Me neither," said Subaru

"At least there's the wedding to look forward to," said Aine "I hope Maori can come,"

"Me too," said Kanata "Even if she doesn't come, I still want to see her before we leave,"

"Yeah," Subaru nodded

Suddenly, Yoshi tripped and cried as the shallow waters rose and got him wet then retreated back into the ocean. Aine ran over and carried the crying toddler in her arms. "There, there," she said to her brother

"Wet! Wet!" Yoshi cried

"I know, I know,"

"Done!" Momone announced, putting the final touches onto her sand dome "What do you think?"

"Very nice Momone," said Aine 

"I bet Maori could make a better one," Momone said with a sad tone

"Oh no, it's a beautiful sandcastle," said Aine "Not even Maori could do better,"

"No, she could," said Momone "Will she come over tomorrow? Dad said we'd get to play with fancy lights and fireworks! And before that, we would get snow cones. Will Maori be there for any of it?"

"We'll see," said Subaru "Hey, I don't feel like staying at the beach anymore. Who wants to go back to the hotel?"

"Me," said Kanata

"Me too," said Aine

"Me three," said Momone

"WET!!" Yoshi cried

"Let's hurry," said Aine

The five of them arrived at the hotel, Aine handed Yoshi off to Aunt Nene and she started coddling the toddler til he stopped crying and had fallen asleep from his tantrum. "Thank you for watching him, Aine," said Aunt Nene

"It was no problem," she said

Aunt Nene smiled then turned to her nephews. "Subaru, Kanata, your mother told me that your friend from home called again,"

"Oh, okay," said Subaru "I guess ... we'll ... go see Mom and ask to call her back,"

"Is this the person who looks like me?" Aine asked

"No," Subaru said the same time Kanata said "Yes,"

"Cool. Can I talk with her?"

"I guess," Subaru shrugged

"Hello?" said Yume's voice

"Hey! Boiled Octopus!" Subaru said

"Don't call me that," Subaru could hear her sigh loudly "So ... the wedding is coming soon, excited?"

"As I'll ever be," said Subaru "Things just, sort of, took a dark turn here,"

"Oh. What happened?"

"Um ... it's better for me not to say,"

"Oh, I'm sorry," said Yume

"Can I talk to her?" Aine asked

"Well I hope the rest of your vacation goes well," said Yume

"Yeah," Subaru nodded, even though Yume couldn't see her, a force of habit.

"Can I please talk to her?" Aine asked

"So how has the rest of your summer been?" Subaru asked

"Um ... we also hit on a dark turn here," Yume said sadly

Subaru groaned. "What?!" Yume asked

Well it makes sense, he's been saying the same thing to me and everyone else ... Don't know ... Great! Uh, okay," Aine turned to her cousins "Kanata, she said she wanted to talk to you about an Acorn,"

"I'll take that," said Kanata

Aine handed him the phone then turned to Subaru "What -"

"Our turtle," said Subaru, reading Aine's mind "We were going to get a cat but we chose to get Acorn instead,"

"Acorn, that's such a cute name," said Aine "Hey, have you realized the relationship between pet names and food. Acorn ... Waffles,"

"Sometimes," Subaru said with a shrug "But I like those names,"

"Me too,"

The next day, Mirai and Karen were taking everyone 'out'. Subaru and Kanata had preferred for them not to call it 'shopping' because if it was shopping then their wouldn't be snow cones in the future.

"Is everyone ready?" Karen asked

"Yep!" said Momone

"Wait!" called a voice

"Maori!" Aine, Subaru, Kanata, and Momone exclaimed

Maori took a moment to collect her breath "Mommy said we'll be able to make it to the wedding," she said "She told me ... to tell you,"

Aine ran over and hugged her friend "So good to see you're doing alright," she said, Maori smiled sweetly

"who's this?" Karen asked

"A friend of ours," said Kanata "This is Maori,"

"Hello!" Maori waved

"Hello!" said Karen "Oh, do you want to come with us? I think we have room for one more,"

"We have room for the entire island!" said Aine "Please come Maori! your mom won't mind, right?"

"Um ... I don't think so,"

"Then come!" said Subaru

"Yeah! Please!" Momone begged

"Um ... " Maori looked around at all the pleading faces then smiled "I guess I could come along, if you don't mind,"

"Not at all!" Mirai exclaimed "Come on! We're getting accessories for the wedding dress, material for the centerpieces, and then -"

"Snow cones!" The young members cried out
