Chapter 4

Avery's Point Of View

I hate coming to school, having to face people I don't like and i couldn't stand up for myself.

"All she knows is to cry!"

And every single time Lydia skips school or goes overseas, I have to sit alone in the cafeteria. She's now at another side of the world.

I now sit in the cafeteria, letting the people get to me. And no one will stand up for me. Never ever.

I look down at my book, I quickly put it aside. "Hey Evans, it's being a girl too mainstream for you?!" Some girl from another table shouted.

I look down at my food, "stop eating, you fat freak!" My vision became blurry.

I quickly got up, getting all my books and quickly leaving. All I heard was laughter.

"Hey Avery, you want to play basketball?" Reece asks me as I walk past him in the hallway, "no thanks." My voice croak.

I went to my locker to put my things in. But then, someone wrote on my locker. People who walk past, laugh at it. I make my way to the girls locker room.

The tears were already falling, "hey, I heard Lydia Scott committed suicide."

What?

I wipe away my tears, I walk out of the locker room. "Reece!" I run into the gym. The boys all turn to me, the girls who are the benches sent me dirty looks.

"Lydia committed suicide?" I say, barely breathing when Reece approach me. "I'm sorry," he mutters. "But her Mum said that they were going overseas, how could she died?" I asks.

I blink my tears away but then it just fell. "Why didn't you tell me?" I punch his shoulder roughly, "sorry, I thought you knew." Reece responded.

I put my hand over my mouth and left the gym.

"What a crybaby."

I wipe away my tears.

Lydia, I miss Lydia. She's the reason how I could put up with school but now I have literally no one. I have a lump in my throat, but I don't want to cry.

I decide to go back home, I can't be here all day. I manage to sneak out. When I reach home, I just lied to my Dad that I wasn't feeling well.

He went off to work after that, my phone vibrated.

"Aren't you coming to training?" One of my teammates, Mark Walsh messaged me.

"No.. Tell Coach Carter I'm not feeling well." I text back.

People can see her bright, wide smile.

They could see her brave and strong.

They could see her laughing.

But that's the outside, how about the inside?

The doorbell ring, I went over and open it. "Eugene?" I look up at him. "Hey." He smiles slightly, he fixes his beanie and steps in.

"Erm, what are you doing here?" I asks awkwardly, we don't usually get guests and my house is in a big mess.

"I got you your biology notes." He says, passing me the papers. "Thanks." I mumbled, putting it on the table.

"Uh, do you want a soda?" I asks, scratching the back of my head. "No, I'm fine." He says, sitting down on the couch.

I sits beside him, "I'm sorry." He apologizes. "About Lydia." When he says her name, I immediately felt like crying.

"Uh yeah.. Okay." I muttered, not knowing what to say. Then i heard the thunder, it was really loud. I jump slightly, startled.

The lights then went off, "you gotta to be kidding me." I mumbled, looking outside the window. It was dark and gloomy.

I grab my phone and turn on the torchlight, "erh, what do we do now?" I asks. Why do I have to be so awkward?

"Well, I can't go home.." He mutters, "well, you're lucky i have brothers and my Dad isn't home." I stated. Where did all the attitude come from?

It's only 6.30pm.

Aw come on, Avery. I know you want Eugene to be here. He is your crush after all.

I really hate the voice in my head. I showed him Andre's room, it's like a guest room now since it's been years. "There are clothes in there that can fit you.. I think." I mumbled, shining the torchlight at him.

"Thanks," he mutters, I then went into the bathroom to get him a toothbrush. "Isn't this my number?" His eyebrows furrowed at the piece of paper.

Oh yeah, i took it out before I showered just now. Oh steaks.

"Where did you get this from?" He asks, "uh.. Casey gave it to me..?" I replied like it was a question. Then he smirks, "why did she gave it to you?"

"For safe-keeping.." I'm bad at lying.

"Safe-keeping now?" He smiles cockily, and put the paper down. I grab the toothbrush and pass it to him, "were you planning to call me?" He asks.

"Not really.." He raised his right brow at me, "why would I call a stranger?" I asks. "Well, first of all, you like me. And second of all, you can't resist me, and lastly, you might even love me."

Wow, he does sound like a jerk.

i shine the light in his face, "hey!" He frowns at me. "It's true, isn't it?" He asks. "It's not, I do not like or love anybody." I stated.

"But you can't resist me." He points out, "nope. I hate you."

Why did I just say that? That's just plain mean. I bite down my bottom lip nervously.

"I'm sorry, i didn't-"

"You're so innocent," He chuckles, cutting me off. My heart begins pounding, "you hungry?" I asks, changing the subject.

"Yeah.. I think I can eat." He says, I walk back down to the kitchen. "What you want?" I asks, I open the fridge. "Oh steaks, I have absolutely nothing." I muttered.

"I have cereal though." I say to him, I then shine the light at him so i could see his expression. "You're weird, I like you."
