Chapter 9

Avery's Point Of View

I couldn't go to sleep last night. I was thinking about the kiss. About the blade incident. About Isaac.

About Eugene.

Why did he kiss me?

Does he like me?

Why would he like me?

Oh steaks, I couldn't stop thinking.

"Evans!" Coach Carter shouted at me in gym class, I quickly avert my eyes to him.

"Pay attention." We are playing a little dodge ball while half of the other class go set up some hockey stuff. I don't know much about hockey, I only know how to play it. And that's it.

Eugene is my opponent, and my team is throwing balls at his team. His team is doing well. None of them is out yet, but two of my teammates are.

I pick up the ball and threw it high. "Woah!" The ball hit Eugene hard in the face. "Oh god!" Eugene held his face, his eyes squeezed close.

I quickly run over, "oh steaks. I'm so sorry." I say, looking at his extremely red face.

"Ever thinking of joining basketball?" He asks, "no.. I'm bad at basketball." I replied. "Okay, since we don't have any training today. Meet me after school." He says to me, then leaving to get an icepack.

Did I agree to something..?

;

After school, i make my way to the gym. Eugene is dribbling the ball inbetween his legs before shooting into the hoop. I put my bag aside, Eugene turn to look at me with a slight smile on his face.

"So what are you bad at?" He asks when I approach him. I put my hands in my back pockets, "three pointer shoot." I replied.

He pick up the ball and pass it to me, "okay then, how about your defense?" He asks.

"Erm, it's okay I guess." I replied, shrugging. He chuckles lightly, and dribbles the ball. "Get it from me." He says, taking a step forward.

I bite my lips nervously and charge towards him, my hand reach out but then he switch to another hand. "Hey you're actually quite good." He says.

I raised my eyebrows in surprise, "I'm serious." He added. We stood behind the three pointer line. "Okay so, try not to use your whole arm." He says, passing me the ball.

He stood behind me and I threw it in. It hit the hoop but it bounced off.

"That was good, try to make higher and use a little more force." He says, running to get the ball. He throws me the ball and I caught it in my hands.

He place his hands on my waist for a while then place them on my shoulders.

"Just throw, like someone you hate is the board. Shatter the board." He whispers into my ear, his breath tickling me.

"Hey!" We both step away from each other, my heart pounding. Casey walks in, her heels clicking against the wooden floor.

"So, you're hanging out with her now?" Casey asks Eugene, his eyebrows knitted together with slight confusion.

"Stay away from her. And you," she turns to me. "He's a jerk." She stated. "Hey, I'm standing right here you know." Eugene frowns a little.

"He's going to take your virginity and then crush you into pieces -"

My heart is already in pieces.

"His ego is bigger than his dick." She finishes, ignoring what Eugene said. "Excuse me?" Eugene's eyes widen at her statement.

"Nothing." Casey shrugs and runs off as fast as she can in her high heels.

Now this is just awkward.

"I don't think you're a jerk." I say, then he looks at me with surprise. "You see that's why I like you."

Avery's Diary :

Why do I still have a diary?
People will probably laugh at me.
Well they already are but yeah..

Why do Eugene keep saying that he likes me?

Does he likes me, likes me?

That's ridiculous.

And yeah, I gotta admit.

I do like Eugene Hunter.

Probably love him but I can't love too much.

- Evans.

I step out of the bathroom, my towel over my wet hair. My wrist is itching to be cut.

Restrain yourself!

I grab my bag and carry it to my desk. I stare at my math textbook.

Eugene..
