Chapter 2
Avery's Point Of View
After a few days, I made a lot of accidental eye-contacts with the gorgeous guy. I told my friends about it, Lydia has been terribly sick so I didn't told her over the phone.
I still don't know his name but I guess I will have to find out soon. My knees has been healing very quickly but it's going to leave scars behind.
I still go to training so my attendance will be taken. "Today, we will be training our running with the basketball team." Coach Carter says, I raised my eyebrows in surprise.
One of my friend, Casey Daniels sits beside me. She is always hanging around to see cute boys. She is a cheerleader, I met her last year.
"I guess you will know his name today." She says cheekily when the basketball team walks in and join us. "Which one?" She asks, nudging me. "That one.." I muttered, "the one with the black hair and blue eyes." I added.
"Eugene Hunter." Casey nods slightly, "he's a jerk." She stated. I raised my right brow, "I'm sorry, what?"
"Jerk. J-E-R-K." She says to me, "he's loud, ridiculous and mean." She added. "Oh.." I muttered, I look back at them and made eye-contact with Eugene.
I look away, biting down my bottom lip. How could such a cute guy be a jerk?
Actually, it's possible.
;
Everyday, I go to school. Facing people who treat me like shit, people forget that i am human too.
"Hey Dad, I'm home." I step into my house, "hey, kiddo! How's your knees?" He asks. "Fine." I replied, making my way to the kitchen.
"So erh, remember your brothers?" He asks, "yeah?" I immediately perk up and look at him. "I don't think they will be able to make it for your 18th birthday." He says.
Oh.
"Okay.. It's fine." I say, shrugging. "Really?" He raised his eyebrows, I never saw my brothers in years. They left when I was 14 for military and they never came back, they do call once in a while.
But I really want to see them, and wherever they are, their internet connection is bad so we never really got the chance to skype.
"I mean you're 18. They never saw you for 4 years." Dad states, "yeah.. It's fine, Dad." I smile, assuring him. I went to the living room where I have been sleeping these few days due to my injury, i couldn't climb up the stairs.
"I don't need a birthday party, my friends doesn't really come over anyway." I say, shrugging. I sit on the couch, "how about that Lydia?" He asks.
"She is always overseas because of her mother." I replied, shrugging. "Aw, poor Avery." Dad says, I chuckled slightly.
"Its fine, I'm fine without a birthday party." I shrug, "but you haven't had a birthday party in years, even on your 16th birthday. It's all so special." He says.
I shrug, not really knowing how to respond. "I'm used to it, Dad.. Don't you worry." I say, he sighs. "I am off to work, dinner is in the fridge." He says, standing up and leaving.
"Okay, be safe." I say to him and put my laptop on my lap. I immediately log into my Facebook. I type in the search box, Eugene Hunter.
School's Basketball team, 18 years old. I smile slightly and click on his photos.
I'm bored and have nothing to do, besides my homework.
I scroll through his baby photos, he is really cute. How can he be a jerk? Then I went to his wall and came by one of his status.
His Instagram username.
I grab my phone and type in the search box.
Mother of hot abs.
"Please don't have a girlfriend." I cross my fingers, biting down my bottom lip. Wait, why did I just say that?
He won't like me. I'm ugly. And fat. And waaaay, out of his league.
Then the house phone rang, I reach over and answer. "Hello." I put my laptop and phone aside. "Hey Avery, how are you doing?" My second oldest brother, Andre Evans asks. Andre is a sweet and caring brother, he has a very soft side and has no bad side at all.
My oldest brother is different, and I really don't see how we are all related. I'm the combination of two of them, that's what my Dad says.
"Hey Andre, I'm doing fine. But I injured my knees.." I replied, "aw," I smile slightly. "How are you?" I asks, "doing good. I'm being transferred to the Naval Base." He replies.
I grin widely, "the navy? Oh my god," I say. "I know right!" I can see him grinning too. I find the Navy cool, i like their uniforms and the ocean.
I thought about joining the Navy when I get older but then, nah. "How's Dad?" He asks, i lick my dry lips. "Fine, he just went off to work." I replied.
"Andre Evans!" I heard a deep voice from the another side, "oh shit, I gotta go." Andre says. "Okay, bye." I say quickly, "bye, love you!" He hangs up.
I smile and put the phone aside, my phone then vibrated. "Eugene Hunter, are you serious?!" Lydia message me.
Instead of texting her, I call her.
"He is cute."
"But a jerk. A big time jerk."
"He is cute." I repeated.
"He's loud."
"Cute."
"He's mean."
I groan, giving up. "How could you like someone you never speak to?" She asks. "I don't like him, I just.. I don't know." I groan.
"Aw, you're in love. It has been a long time." She says in a sarcastic tone, "I'm not in love." I stated. "How did you meet him?" She asks.
"I fell down, he look at me, I look at him. Found him handsome and cute." I say in a dull tone, "woah. What a nice love story." She says.
I chuckled and roll my eyes, "you coming back to school tomorrow?" I asks. "Nope, I'm coming back on Monday then I'm getting you Eugene's number." She says in a sassy tone.
"What? I don't need-" Then the line went dead, sounds like Monday will be a bad day for me.
