The time ticked by and we waited anxiously. It seemed like time ticked in microwave minutes, passing slower than you ever thought. The clock taunted us, as it's minute movements danced around its face. The air smelt grim and dark, and tasted of fear and uncertainty. The bare walls moved closer and closer as every doctor passed in the hall. There was no comfort until someone told us what was going on. Not only did the walls seem to get smaller, but our hoped seemed to as well. None of us said anything; there really was nothing to be said. After an hour the doctor came out to talk to us,

"Are you all here for Miss. Pinnock?" We all nodded apprehensively and so she continued,

"The surgery was successful, we just need to monitor for a little while so she is currently in post intensive care, but she will only be there until the anesthetic wears off then we'll put her in the women's and children's ward. We'll assess how she is before we let her check out, but it might be a fair while before then."

Jade spoke up first,

"How long is a fair while?" The doctor looked at us sympathetically with a look of pure thought,

"A week or two, possibly more, just until we can get her sitting without doubling over in pain."

I almost laughed at the doctor, but stopped myself before I let everyone think that I was an absolutely horrible friend. The mood in the room changed then, it was lighter, and like a secret that everyone had been holding had finally been released to the world. It was a weight off our shoulders, but we still had to see her. Jesy was the next to speak,

"Can we go see her?" The doctor smiled and nodded,

"Follow me, I'll show you where she is."

She led us to a corridor that headed towards the far wing of the hospital. It was a lot quieter there, it was an eerie silence. It was like death was waiting to claim everyone who walked in here. I shuddered at the thought yet kept walking. All I seemed to see was sickness and deaths grasps. They were closer to some than others. It was like death could tell if you were vulnerable or not; and death could tell if you were afraid of it or not. The more afraid you were, the closer death was. That was the way it was.

The only noise was the patter of our shoes and it was enough to fill the emptiness. We didn't dare speak; it was a terrifying thought to break the silence. Even though there were plenty of people there, it was like there was no one there.

Halfway down the overly long corridor we turned left into a room. It was small and secluded, with only one bed. The lights were dull and the air was musty, yet the room was extremely sterile at the same time. The bed had completely flat sheets except for where there was a small crinkle where Leigh-Anne's petite figure lay. Her body was completely still, almost lifeless, besides the small rise and fall of her chest every half a second or so. Her breaths were shallow but slow, yet still even. Her eyes were shut, not even fluttering in the slightest. We knew she was ok, but looking at her it was hard to believe it.

The doctor left us and we all took a seat in the room. We made small talk, but didn't really say anything at all. I was sitting on Zayn's lap and Jesy was sitting next to us on the couch. Jade was sitting opposite us looking at Leigh, waiting for her to wake up. The anxiety didn't claim us as bad as before; we knew that she was ok this time.

After about half an hour finally her eyes fluttered open. I let out a sigh of relief and Jade turned her attention to fussing over her. Jesy walked out to get the doctor and I simply smiled. She was fine; we were as fine as could be implied. Everything was good.

Leigh-Anne's eyes turned to me, looking straight into mine. She saw Zayn and smiled.

"I'm sorry for before, I know we did what was right."
