Few weeks have gone by and Peter and I are good friends. Our plant, named RumpleSnakeSkin because he is a snake plant, is slowly but steadily growing. Of course he's the tallest in the class, thanks to me.
Abby and Louis are pretty good friends of mine. Ryan and I are more acquaintances than anything else.
Everyday Lucy gives me another reason to join her friend circle. Do you know how hard it is to refuse something you so desperately want? It is harder than a frozen stone.
My morning classes were so boring. Next I had gym.
"Today we are running the mile on the track. Any questions?" our teacher said to my class. A collective groan escaped everyone's lips.
People started to ask questions to stall.
"Can I go get my jacket from my locker?"
"Would I get a detention if I didn't run the mile?"
"Why don't you ever run the mile with us, Mr. Kornin?"
"Enough questions. Let's go and get this over with." He said and pointed to the door.
We all walked to the track and crowded around the starting line that was marked by peeling white paint.
"Alright, I'm going to split you into three groups." After diving us, my teacher tweeted his whistle for the first group to go.
Then the second.
Then the third, which was my group. I ran at a decent pace until Lucy started to run next to me.
"Hey (Y/n)!" She said.
"Hello, Lucy,"
"I'm having a party this Friday. Can I count on you being there?" She asked with a smile, despite sweating and running.
"I don't know, Lucy..." I trailed off.
I thought long and hard. I really wanted to go to this party. I had never been to a real high school party before. But I couldn't go. It wouldn't be a part of the mission. I don't have much time for other things.
"Please come! You can bring a friend, if you want!" She pleaded, "Like ... Peter! He won't be too out of place and you too are pretty close. Right?"
Perfect.
"I'll think about it." I finally said, right after finishing the mile.
"Great! Just let me know as soon as possible if you're coming and if you're bringing someone. Oh! also, bring a desert. You know what, I'll text you all the details later." Lucy replied.
"How do you have my number?" I asked.
"Oh I don't do I? Can I get it?" She asked.
I rolled my eyes with a small laugh.
"Sure," I replied. I gave her my number.
"Now it's official!" She gleamed.
"What's official?" I raised my eyebrow.
"Our friendship, of course." She smiled. I also smiled.
The bell rang. "I'll see you around, Lucy"
I sat down at lunch with Peter a bell later. Ned was no where to be found.
"Where's Ned?" I questioned.
"He's sick" Peter replied before he bit into a sandwich.
"Oh... so... I've been invited to a party..." I said. Peter nodded approvingly.
"Anyways, I have a plus one... and I was wondering if you wanted to go with me?"
"Really?" Peter put his sandwich down. "When is it?"
"It's this Friday." Peter thought for a minute.
"I don't think I have any other plans. Sure I'll go with you," He said, "Who's party is it anyways?"
"Lucy Harbouro,"
Peter started to protest, "Lucy Harbouro? She hates me!"
"She doesn't hate you! In fact, she suggested I bring you," I stated, "Please... I don't want to go alone."
Peter grumbled, "Fine. But only for an hour or two. Then I'm leaving."
"Thank you Peter! I owe you one."
"I'm only going because we're friends and I know the kind of people at those parties."
"Awe, are you going to protect me from the big bad guys?" I mocked.
"You know for someone who wants something from me, you're pushing a lot of buttons," He said
Peter and I laughed and talked for the rest of the bell.
Peter needs to stop worrying about protecting me and start worrying about protecting himself.
