Lightning had always comforted me. I think because my sister could produce lightning from her hands. We were always close. It really hit me hard when she died a year and a half ago.
It hit my mom even harder. She was her first successful attempt at creating life with super human abilities.
Of course she was more than that to my mom. She was her little girl.
A mother losing her child like that is unimaginable, but losing your first success story also, is worse.
Not only that, but she was a huge part of our plan to take down the Avengers.
She left all that responsibility to me and I'm not as confident that I can do it as I was before last night.
I walked out of my room and smelled cooking food. I stepped into the kitchen and saw my mom making eggs.
"Hey mom!" I said as I took a seat at the kitchen table.
"Good morning sweetie! How was the party last night?"
"It was alright. It got really boring so Peter and I left pretty early."I replied.
"Did you get caught in the rain? It was coming down really hard when I got home." She asked.
"We actually got back just before it started."
"Well that's at least good." She handed me a plate with scrambled eggs and a fork. She sat down across from me with a similar setup.
"Yeah. Peter invited me to go ice skating tonight. Is it alright if I go?" I asked.
"Of course. Just be back at a decent time."
I finished eating my eggs and disappeared back into my room. The vines that replaced my closet doors weren't their usually green color. How odd. Lately, my plants have been dying. I guess I've been too distracted and busy to care for them properly.
The vines parted as I stepped into my closet to get ready for the day.
Around 5:30 pm I heard my doorbell ring. I open the door while still eating toast.
"Oh, hey Peter," I said, "You're early."
"Am I? Sorry."
"No it's fine. Come inside." I replied.
"(Y/n), who are you talking to?" My mom asked as she walked into the room.
"Hello, Mrs.(L/n). I'm Peter." He said and shook my mom's hand.
"Oh, hi Peter, can I get you anything to drink?" she offered.
"No thank you, Mrs. (L/n). I think we're about to leave."
"Oh, well have her back before sunrise." my mother said with a wink.
"Mom!"
"I'm only teasing, (Y/n)."
"The ice rink closes at 10. I'm sure we'll be back before then," Peter stated with a clueless look.
"Okay, time to go, Peter. Bye mom." I said as I pushed Peter out the door.
"Hey fun you two!" My mom shouted before I closed the door.
Peter smiled. "She seems nice."
Outside of my apartment building, Peter's aunt sat in a car. She honked the horn to get out attention. Peter and I slid into the back seat.
"(Y/n)! Good to see you again." May said as she drove down the road.
"You too. I love your shirt. It's so pretty." I said.
Peter's phone dinged. He looked at his phone and his eyes widened for a split second. He lets a small sigh escape his lips.
"Everything okay Peter?" I asked.
"Huh? Oh! uh, yeah. Just a text about something from work. Don't worry about it." He replied.
