The past few days have been touch and go for Sam and Iain hadn't left her side, he would visit her during his lunch breaks and after work, nobody knew he was seeing Sam up in ICU. He liked being alone with her, he would tell Sam about his day's events and of any funny, entertain, drunk or just damn right bizarre patients.
Iain would take good care of Sam even if she wasn't conscious to appreciate it. It's Iain's day off and he has just been to Sam's to feed her cat and let it out for the day and also clear up any post. This was the only job everyone in the ED knew about.

Iain heads up to ICU with a few things for Sam just in case they decide to wake her today, He is so nervous about them bringing her round due to her undergoing two major brain surgeries, both to remove a clot on her brain.

He enters ICU and smiles at the nurses, sitting at the nursing station. "How is she today?" Iain questions as he walks by.

"vital signs are on the rise; Dr. Carter wants to see if she'll breathe for herself today" The older nurse smiles.

Iain's face lights up slightly "So she could come round?" Iain questions.

"We're not entirely sure yet, her brain activity is still minimal" She smiles back and Iain walks off towards where Sam is.

He opens the door and walks in and smiles at Sam, she looked peaceful. He sits himself down beside her and strokes her hand lightly, "Morning. Just a quick visit today, I'm due on in half hour" He smiles. Iain looks up at Sam and smiles, he strokes her hair and smiles.

Iain sits for a while just quietly thinking to himself, "I've kept the punching bag and... yeah, I've been working out, like you told me" He smiles.

A few minutes pass and he looks at his watch and stands up "Well I better be going. I'll be back soon" Iain whispers.

He looks down at her and smiles humbly to himself. He feels his eyes drawing to her lips, he leans forward and gets closer. He kisses her head lightly "See you soon Sam" He smiles as he moves away and walks off.

As he leaves the room he notices the nurse who has been treating Sam smiling at him, "You love her don't you?" She questions with a smile.

"What? Don't be silly. She's a friend and way out of my league" Iain replies. The nurse smirks as Iain walks away and off for his shift.

During Iain's break eight hours into his shift he decides to go sit somewhere quiet in the peace gardens, He starts to think about Sam and if she made it he would take time away from work to help her get back to normal. He knew she may have to learn to do things again and it would be hard but viable. But deep down, somewhere hidden Iain knew Sam would refuse the help even if she really did need the help.

"So Have you been to see Sam recently? I've heard she's in a bad way, someone told me she won't make the week now" Jan says to another Paramedic as Iain walks into the ambulance station. He holds his tongue and listens to the conversation.

"Sad to think she will probably die; she'd got no one. No family, no one" The other Paramedic replies.

"I've been to see her, they said she's got a change of living. Her vital signs are on the rise" Iain explains.

Jan and the other young paramedic nod in acknowledgment to Iain and carry on chatting amongst themselves. He goes into the staffroom and puts his cup in the sink ready to be washed up.
