Once again it had been a few days since Iain had visited Sam, she was still the same apart from all her vital signs are on the rise. Iain had missed working with Sam, more than he had thought he would, suddenly he felt a little more towards Sam, a rush inside, something burning deep within telling him to stick by Sam's side. That feeling deep down inside... could it be love?
It's now been over two weeks since Sam's accident and Iain has every faith in her to recover even if she still hasn't come round from the induced coma. He hadn't felt Sam's side all morning and was looking forward to his daily coffee and muffin at 10am.
He sits watching Sam, a smile hidden in his eyes, a glint of happiness shines through every now and then. He strokes her hand and looks at her arms, the bruises finally fading and the cuts were healing, she looked brand-new.
What Iain hadn't realised while sitting with Sam is that her heart rate as slightly risen. "I should go to the toilet now" He smiles before letting go of her hand and gets up to leave. Iain sighs to himself and walks out, he hears a slight cough but takes no notice but as he puts his hand in his pocket he realises his phone is still in the room where Sam is.
He turns around to see Sam her eyes wide open, panicking over the tube down her throat. Iain freezes but suddenly jumps into action. "Can I get some help here" He shouts out, he rushes back to Sam's side and tries to keep her calm.
Iain holds Sam's hands down to stop her trying to pull the tube out her mouth, she has a look of fright and confusion written across her face. "It's okay, Sam I promise you. It's going to be okay" He soothes and tries to keep her calm.
She stares straight at him almost like she has seen him at a glance before. The Nurses and Doctors come in, the workaround her to try and keep her calm and comfortable as the Doctor makes the decision to remove the breathing tube from her mouth instead of putting her back under.
Slowly but safely the Doctor removes the tube from Sam's mouth, Sam makes a dramatic scene as she gasps from the air once it's removed but then goes quiet and looks at everyone in the room. The Doctor applies Sam with a nasal cannula and turns the oxygen on at the wall.
Iain watches to see what Sam will do, she just stares at him almost like she's staring straight through him. "Hello, you" Iain smiles hoping Sam would react. She looks at him properly and then smiles. Iain gives a sigh of relief.
The doctors start to ask Sam questions, So Iain leaves them for a while and decides to go to the canteen to get a drink. While in the canteen Iain realises he hasn't been home for a while as he's been stopping at the hospital watching over Sam.
He decides to finish his coffee and heads home to get freshened up, once he's freshened up he decides to have some food and catch up on anything he's missed on TV, although all he can think of is Sam and how she's getting along.
The following day Iain wakes up on the sofa and realises he's slept on the sofa the whole night, He sits up and looks around before turning his phone alarm off and getting up. He heads upstairs and goes for a shower and puts some fresh clothing on.
He then heads off to work where the talk of the whole ambulance station is that Sam is up and well, they have also mentioned that she is talking but is clueless to the incident which now occurred two weeks ago. "Hey Iain, we're collecting for Sam, going to buy her something nice" Jan smiles as she walks across the station towards him.
"Oh yeah sure, I've got some change somewhere," Iain says as he pats his pockets down and finally finds his wallet. He opens up the wallet and looks in, "What's wrong Iain? Just moths in there?" Jan jokes with a smirk on her face.
"Na, here," Iain smiles, he hands over £20 and Jan looks at him in shock, "Get her something nice" He adds as he walks off to get changed.
Jan can't believe her eyes and puts it in the donation pot and places it on a shelf in her office. Once Iain is dressed for the shift he comes back out for a prep meeting. Jan runs through things that have taken place and also their call out times and how long they're spending with none hospital admission patients. "... Before you all leave, I would like to introduce our newly qualified Paramedic Ruby Sparks, she will be joining Iain on her first shout," Jan announces.
Ruby gives Iain a little wave and walks over to him, straight away Iain rolls his eyes. She is far too fresh and new to his liking. He needed to bring her down to earth. "Right well... you ready?" Iain questions as he walks over to the ambulance.
"Oh... yeah, Right. Sure" Ruby speaks nervously as she follows Iain and climbs into the passenger's seat.
She sits quietly and looks at Iain, "Can I help?" He questions noticing Ruby starring at him.
Ruby nods and takes a breath in, "You was the paramedic at the scene of that roof collapse which almost killed that ex-army Paramedic" she speaks a little uneasy by how Iain will react.
Iain thinks to himself, she has obviously seen the news or even heard it from someone at the station so just simply replies "Yes, I was there... She 's, my... friend" He smiles, Ruby nods and smiles before sitting quietly.
He starts up the ambulance and they drive out the station and find somewhere to wait until they get their first shout which isn't long at all.
