Unfortunate Events

A week later Iain has arrived back from his lad's weekend away and is now about to go back on shift, he enters the ambulance station to see different paramedics doing stuff around the station including restocking ambulances and others getting ready for a shout.

"Ah, Iain, just the man... you're working with me today" Jan smirks and Iain sighs a little before putting on a brave face. "Well then Iain, are you going to stand there all day like a Pansy or are you actually going to work?" She teases with a smirk on her face.

Iain smiles slightly at Jan and then heads off to the locker room and changes into his uniform. As he leaves the locker room Jan calls him over, "Come on Iain best foot forward. fifteen-year-old female queried head and neck injury. Other injuries unknown" Jan speaks up as she climbs into the passenger side of the ambulance.

Iain starts up the engine and activates the blue emergency lights and they drive out the station. They begin their drive down to the emergency call out, "So how is Sam?" He questions.

"Okay from what I've heard, they tried to bring her round Thursday but no luck. I'm lead to believe her vital signs have dropped but she's hanging on in there" Jan explains to Iain who looks concerned.

"Oh dear, I may go see her later. See what havoc she's causing on ICU" Iain jokes as they pull up at the scene of the incident.

Iain climbs out the ambulance and grabs his bag and makes his way over to the patient who is lying on the floor with her head being restrained by the school nurse. "Hi I'm Iain and I'm a paramedic, this is Jan also a paramedic" Iain smiles as he kneels down next to the young girl.

"Can you tell me your name sweetheart and where it hurts?" Jan questions as Iain takes over holding the patient's neck still.

"My...my...my..." The young girl stutters clearly shaken by the incident.

The school nurse looks at Jan "Her name is Martha Cassidy" She speaks on behalf of the young girl.

"Thank you but I'm sure Martha can speak for herself" Jan smiles and looks at Iain who is feeling Martha's neck checking for any injury.

Iain feels her neck and suddenly Martha cries out in pain "There! Right there... Stop! It hurts" Martha panics and Iain stops and continues to hold her neck still. Jan and Iain immobilize Martha's neck.

Iain straps Martha down to the board and the head back to the ambulance "Martha's Mother has been contacted and she will meet you at the hospital" The school nurse speaks up.

"Sorry, due to her age you will have to accompany us to the hospital" Iain explains, as himself and Jan take Martha into the ambulance. Jan radios ahead to alert the hospital they will be in soon.

Once they dropped Martha off at the ED and went through the transfer and any other forms included in the overall transfer.

After Iain's shift has finished her clocks off and sneaks off up to ICU in hope of seeing Sam, awake and well. Instead, when he got there he was confronted by many doctors rushing around Sam, monitors going off, panic had set in around the room.

A doctor pushes Iain aside and out of the room, "What is going on?" Iain questions in a concerned tone, The Doctor says nothing and returns to the bustling room.

Iain watches through the window hoping for a sign Sam is okay. A nurse moves away from the side of Sam and he can see a Young male doctor performing CPR on Sam. His heart is in his mouth, his hands are clammy, he crosses his fingers in hope... something, anything, just a little miracle.

He starts to watch as she's given another dose of adrenaline, "Come on, come on!" Iain mutters to himself as he watches the medical team work tirelessly around Sam, doing everything in their path to save the young woman.

As he watches and hopes for a miracle his wishes suddenly come true as she gets an output and she starts to breathe for herself again. "Okay, let's get her down for a head CT" The Clinical lead speaks up.

They take the breaks off the bed and attach the heart monitor and IV drip to the bed. "Is she okay?" Iain questions as she passes him.

"Only time will tell" replies an intensive care unit nurse.
